Internationals: Haaland, Khusanov and Marmoush in action
The World Cup ambitions of Erling Haaland, Abdukodir Khusanov and Omar Marmoush were given a boost after positive results on Tuesday.
Norway’s campaign is only just beginning, but they made it two wins out of two with Haaland on target in a 4-2 victory over Israel in Hungary.
The City striker wrapped up the win with the fourth goal, seven minutes from time as Norway moved top of Group I.
David Moller Wolfe opened the scoring before Israel’s Mohammed Abu Fani equalised 10 minutes after the break.
But two goals in six minutes from Alexander Sorloth and Kristoffer Ajer regained the lead before Haaland’s goal as Norway secured a crucial three points.
Meanwhile, Khusanov’s Uzbekistan drew 2-2 in Iran, who became the second country to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Victory would have seen the Uzbeks qualify for the first time but they remain in a strong position to reach the tournament in North America.
Khusanov played the whole match in Tehran as Uzbekistan twice took the lead through Khojimat Erkinov and Abbosbek Fayzullaev.
But a brace from Mehdi Taremi – the second seven minutes from time – saw Iran secure the point they needed.
Uzbekistan next two games are in June where a point in United Arab Emirates or a win at home to Qatar would see them qualify for the World Cup for the first time.
Marmoush’s Egypt are also in pole position for the World Cup after beating Sierra Leone 1-0 in Cairo.
The City striker played 90 minutes as the Pharoahs picked up their fifth win in six matches.
Ahmed Sayed’s strike just before half-time was the difference as Egypt move five points clear of Burkina Faso with four games remaining.
