I think the pop up stopper installed in IE by sp2 has glitched.

I can't open any new windows unless I hold the control key. I have turned off the pop up blocker and still I can't open a new window via link of any kind.

When I first updated to SP2 some windows would open and some would be blocked and there would be an alert on the information bar that a pop up was blocked. It still does that at sites where there are popups. The problem is I have turned the popup blocker off to try and allow new windows. I also tried to allow certain sites but it is like it is stuck on the highest setting and it is becoming really annoying. I do get a message that a popup was allowed but no new window will appear.

I can't find anything in the KB. I gess I could try removing and reintalling SP2 That is a little overkill but still an option. I wish I could find an install or add/remove that just repaired IE. The latest IE download is older than what I have because of sp2.

Any of you alpha geeks have any ideas?

For me it has been hit or miss with SP2.... it works great on my home PC's, but I had some simular issues with my work PC's. I used this video conference website and it launched what IE thought was a pop up so it blocked it.... I tried to allow popups but it still wouldn't let it come through.

I had to uninstall and then reinstall and it worked fine the 2nd time. The thing is stilll very buggy....

This reminds me. I have two issues with IE. Both happened before SP 2 was installed.

I get alot of script errors in IE and I also get a wierd "An API Executed abnormally" or something when i try to open a word document from a website.

Hmmm,
Well I ended up removing sp2 but it didn't fix it. :(

I tried to trick the computer so I could install IE6 sp1 again but the installation errors out and won't finish.

This sucks. I'll keep plugging and something will come up. It is not a critical problem just annoying.

Thanks for the feedback Ryan.

Uninstalling SP2 can cause you more problems than you'll ever want to know about. It is better to attempt reconfiguring the features and not uninstall/reinstall. Doing this can compound any problems you were having to begin with. Or, it may be a panacea - it all depends on if your original install was clean or not. If not clean, then a basic uninstall/reinstall may be beneficial. If clean, then you may be in for some serious troubles.

I will put it back in today, It seems to be working ok except for the no new IE window problem is still there. Maybe a clean install will reset whatever has glitched out.

The script errors are usually the fault of the site makers so I wouldn't worry about that too much. You may try and repair office for the Word/IE problem.

Go to add/remove programs and run the change/remove for office. It will prompt you for remove, repair, reinstall. A repair might do it.

Good Luck.
