As the No. 6 seeded Iowa women's basketball (23-11, 10-8 Big Ten) saw their season come to an end on Monday following a 96-62 loss vs. No. 3 seeded Oklahoma (27-7, 11-5 SEC) in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament from the Lloyd Noble Center, senior guard Lucy Olsen shared a tearful reflection on her time with the Hawkeyes in her postgame media availability.
Olsen finished Monday afternoon's contest with a team-leading 20 points on 7-for-20 from the floor, 4-for-8 from 3-point territory, and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe to pair with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 34 minutes of action.
Olsen began her college career at Villanova, averaging 14.3 points per game on 41.8% from the floor, 31.8% from deep, and 76.5% from the free-throw line in 105 games over three years.
Following her junior season, Olsen transferred to Iowa for her senior year, where she averaged 17.9 points per game on 43.6% from the floor, 36% from long range, and 74.4% from the stripe in 32 games played with the Hawkeyes.
When asked about how she feels knowing her college career has come to a close, the senior guard mentioned how grateful she is for being able to join a program like Iowa, to be a part of the Hawkeyes family, and play for head coach Jan Jensen.
"Yeah, I'm super grateful that I got the chance to play here," Olsen said. "There were a lot of ups and downs, but I'm super proud of the team and everyone became my family. I've got the best coach here, so yeah, I'm just super grateful for it. I wouldn't want it any other way. It [a win] just wasn't supposed to happen tonight."
Despite an early exit from the NCAA Tournament after reaching the national championship game each of the previous two seasons, the future of the Hawkeyes program is bright as they add five-star combo guard Addy Deal, four-star center Layla Hayes, and four-star small forward Journey Houston to an already talented 2025-26 roster.
For Olsen, she has still not announced whether she intends to declare for the 2025 WNBA Draft, but the senior will finish her four-year college tenure with 2,077 (15.2 per game) points on 42.3% shooting, 32.9% from deep, and 75.9% from the charity stripe on 33.2 minutes averaged while starting in all 137 games played.
