The Iowa Hawkeyes will be without one of their depth pieces to open the 2025 NCAA Tournament against Murray State.
Freshman guard Teagan Mallegni did not make the trip to Norman, Okla., after colliding with a teammate in practice earlier in the week. Kyle Huesmann of Hawkeye Report revealed that Mallegni entered the concussion protocol.
If Iowa (22-10, 10-8 Big Ten) can top 11th-seeded Murray State (25-7, 16-4 Missouri Valley), Mallegni could make the trip down for a second-round date against either No. 3 seed Oklahoma (25-7, 11-5 SEC) or No. 14 seed Florida Gulf Coast (30-3, 18-0 ASUN).
Mallegni has appeared in 30 games this season for the Hawkeyes and is averaging 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game on 34.4% field goal shooting, 22.8% 3-point shooting and 78.3% shooting at the free throw line
Tipoff between Iowa and Murray State is set for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN on Saturday, March 22.
