What a dingle-dong.

How do you get them mixed up, do blanks look like live rounds?
They usually look like a regular bullet with the projectile but they can look similar. Especially movie ones for a revolver so that they look correct since you can see the cylinder. Below is a picture of blanks for a .45 colt revolver (same type used in Rust). They were most likely similar to these and maybe had a fake cap on them for movie magic.

You always keep live round separate from blanks though. That's a safety 101 type of item.

Yup, we had them in the Army for field exercises. We also had muzzle covers just in case.

Armorer is charged.

Gutierrez Reed transferred narcotics to another person “with the intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of herself,” the amended complaint says.

Gutierrez Reed was likely hungover when she loaded a prop gun used by actor Alec Baldwin that fired a live round of ammunition during a rehearsal, prosecutors alleged in a prior court filing CNN reported on last week.

Witnesses told investigators Gutierrez Reed “was drinking heavily and smoking marijuana in the evenings during the shooting of Rust,” the filing from prosecutors said.

Innocent until proven guilty. No jail time if they do prove him guilty.

So...with Reed getting convicted the civil suit should be quashed right?

Legal experts said they’ve been impressed by the skill and swagger of New Mexico prosecutors, two experienced attorneys from Albuquerque who inherited the case nearly a year ago. A previous set of prosecutors, including the Santa Fe County district attorney, was forced to step down last year from the Gutierrez and Baldwin cases after a series of missteps.

Morrissey, in particular, has shown a willingness to take on Baldwin’s prosecution. She and her legal partner, Jason J. Lewis, successfully outmaneuvered Gutierrez’s defense attorneys, who tried to shift the blame for the tragedy to the film’s production managers and producers, including Baldwin.

On Wednesday, the 12-person jury deliberated only about two hours before returning the guilty verdict against Gutierrez.

“Baldwin’s legal team must view this result with trepidation,” former federal prosecutor John Fishwick said Thursday. “This conviction is big momentum for the prosecution.”

Baldwin has argued, with support from Hollywood’s performers’ union SAG-AFTRA, that it wasn’t his job to be the gun safety officer on set. He said he was relying on other professionals to do their jobs to ensure a safe production. But that argument might not hold much weight in a court of law.

“His defense can’t be, ‘I’m only an actor,’ a special argument that’s unique to him,” University of New Mexico law professor Joshua Kastenberg said. “The question then becomes, why are actors different than ordinary citizens? Well, they’re not.”

The judge dismissed the case today because the prosecution failed to provide evidence to the defense team.

The actor's legal team said the Santa Fe sheriff's office took possession of live rounds as evidence in the case but failed to list them in the "Rust" investigation file or disclose their existence to defense lawyers.

They also alleged the rounds were evidence that the bullet that killed Hutchins came from Seth Kenney, the movie's prop supplier. Kenney has denied supplying live ammunition to the production and has not been charged in the case.
"The state's withholding of the evidence was wilful and deliberate," Sommer said in delivering her decision. "Dismissal with prejudice is warranted to ensure the integrity of the judicial system and the efficient administration of justice."
