I know he was a first round pick. However, Murray is now 25. His college numbers reflected his athleticism, but were not indications of dominance. I’m not sure it’s a real career direction any longer, but it might be a place to hide.

I highly doubt it.

The only slim chance would be if the A's (or someone else) guaranteed Kyler an MLB roster spot for X years just for the marketing/media/PR buzz.

He’s only 24.. won’t be 25 until preseason in August. Can’t imagine it being an option. Regardless of the IHKC thinks, kid is going to be paid $40mm a year soon with far more endorsement options than a gamble of transitioning back to baseball with no guarantee he’d be any sort of a star over there

Even if they kept him on the major league roster, he still faces 3 years of MLB minimum wage.

Can’t imagine baseball as being an option. There are no guarantees he would make the major league level. Even if he would have gone after college. He is very athletic but his stats in college did not jump out at you. I think he had like a .260-.265 BA. Following baseball very closely over the years, I’d have to guess there are over 1,000 players with his baseball credentials.

The son of a very good friend of mine was drafted in 6th round. Great high school accolades. Played great in college. Spent most of his years in the minors but bounced up and down the last few years. His career earnings over 10 years were nowhere close to Murray’s average salary for his 1st contract in the NFL.

Murray’s future is in the NFL because he stands to make a lot more money in one year than he would in a career in baseball.

Not with the Oakland As, they are cash poor. If he was traded to the Texan Rangers that would help as he is popular there and they could promote him. However, I can't picture Kyler in the minors taking a team bus and living in dumpy motels.

No, not even worth asking the question unless you want people to face reality... unless Kyler really loves the spirit of the sport, and does not mind riding cramped buses in the minor leagues till he gets a shot which is not written in stone

It's fun to discuss, but unless he really loves baseball, then he's not making that jump.

Pointed this out recently. With the MLB lockout situation Kyler would be crazy to go to baseball. The only way he would even consider it would be getting a major league contract, he'd still be in the minors but the contract puts him on the 40 man roster. The problem is under lockout rules minor leaguers get paid, but players on the 40 man roster do NOT, and can't play, even in the minors. So unless baseball resolves their situation soon Kyler would either have to sign a minor league contract which is WAY less than he makes now in football, or sign a major league contract knowing there's a risk he sits, doesn't get paid, that would be nuts at 25 to risk missing a portion or whole year in baseball.

Again it would be AMAZING if Kyler left for baseball now.
