I hope this kid can contribute but I have a major problem if he was given this number. We have not had much to cheer for in the history of our franchise but the #81 has always been a player we could be proud of for the most part. In a way, it is the Cardinal's most sacred of numbers...Roy Green and Boldin being a few of them.

I understand Boldin's been great in the turn around of this franchise, but at the end of the day, it's just a number.

I agree with you Jetstream! It is going to be tough watching anyone wearing 81, but even harder if they are not a play maker.

Conversely, since #81 has been so successful for the Cardinals, maybe Dray will finally be our answer at TE we have been looking for!

Hey it's okay to dream!

I wouldn't count on it...in my book Dray is a spare & there may be 20 TE's on the street just as good as him. To me he shouldn't even be allowed to wear the #81.

It is a sacred number, but it should have been retired with Jackie Smith.

At this rate, let him wear it. Who knows. It could be the official Cardinal "good luck charm"

Probably true but you never know. TE is one of those positions that finding late round gems isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. At this point, I'll take a TE making it to their 2nd contract with the Cardinals as a success.

Considering there are 80+ players on an offseason roster there is no way possible to retire numbers anymore or save numbers for only players who is deemed worthy of the last player to wear that number.

my guess, which i am almost sure will happen.

fans will give him flak for it at camp, when someone gets cut who has a number that Dray likes, he will take it.
