Is it possible that Emmitt was not compatible with our O-Line?

I am sitting here thinking about the two styles that Emmitt and Marcel bring to the field. Emmitt is more of a finesse back and Marcel is a power guy.

Marcel ran well all season long behind our big offensive line. Thomas Jones had the one fluke of a game in Seattle but other than that, he sucked with his pussyfooting style. To be fair, TJ was hurt a bit but he hadn't done anything the entire time he was here.

Is it possible that only a pwer back like Marcel can work behind this O-Line? Our last two finesse backs, TJ and Emmitt have not done too much.

I hate to see anyone get hurt, but it is the Tugboat's time to shine!

Errr...errr!!!!!!

This Oline suks. Shipp hasn't done ship behind it this year either. They have made no holes, and it is sickening. I hate their poor, uninspired play. Running plays find them getting pancaked, and not the other way around.

I hope the Oline gets it together and Shipp does well, but he's in for a rude awakening (and so are Shipp fans) unless things change.

Both lines are, IMO, to blame for this teams poor play. But I'm more upset with the Oline than the Dline, since the O was supposed to be the strength of the team. Some strength...good luck Marcel! You're gonna need it.

Shipp has looked decent, given the limited opportunities he has received. The line has played OK, but OK is not good enough with what we have invested in that unit. I think they'll look better with Shipp, however, as Shipp looked pretty good last year behind a worse line.

Again guys, I think last years line was better than this one. This year, they are faaaar underachieving. Last year, they actually opened some nice holes, once even TJ could dance his way into from time to time.

This years Oline is a craptacular mess. It is mindboggling.

I hope you're wrong but fear you may not be. Shipp fell off considerably late last year when our OL and WR's were so bad teams were basically playing 8 or even 9 in the box on every down just about.

They aren't doing that yet but they are playing 8 in the box. Detroit we passed them out of it, same with Green Bay. The rams and Cowboys both apparently figured they didn't have to play 8, and dropped the safety.

I do think Shipp found holes much better than TJ, I'm not sure that's the case now Emmitt's vision has always been considered one of his strengths. My hope is there were some plays where the hole was there he just wasn't hitting it quickly enough and Shipp will get there? I think Shipp has run better than Emmitt in several instances this year and don't forget despite his lack of blazing speed Shipp had several long runs last year, the fewer carries he gets the less likely that is to happen.

I benched TJ Duckett for Shipp in my fantasy league I really hope we get him the ball 20+ times this week.

I believe our line is too big for today's NFL.

Maybe I should rephrase that you can't be too big but you can be too slow or too unathletic and I think we have sacrificed athletisim for size and gone too far out of balance on that.

Big needs to be a tackle he is better suited for that in the long run he just needs to be one. He clogs the holes too much as a guard he is so massive he can't be too effective where he is even if he blocks his man he still ends up in the way himself. Guards are usually more athletic to open some holes in that pit area they work in tackles are big and require much more technique it is about their feet much more than a guard during pass blocking and that is why they get paid more it is a combination that is much harder to find.

Big's problem at tackle might be that he dosen't have that much technique and that is the fault of this team for just leaving him at guard so long. He is getting stuck there.

I think you will see an improvement with Shipp in the lineup. First he hits the hole quicker than Emmitt does at this stage of his career. Shipp also needs less of a hole than Smith. Running outside he gets to the corner quicker and is more athletic. Shipp is indeed better suited to this line.
