Its never to early for mocks. However, I dont like this trade because you can stay put or trade down and still get a quality OT. Save the picks.

I saw mocks for the next draft after the last one ended, so now isn't close to being too soon.
Kiper doesn't have a mock that I've seen but he does have his big board. He only has two QB's in his top 25, Barkley at 24 and Geno Smith at 25. I'm sure that they'll both go much earlier than that though.

Is there any chance Miami trades Jake Long?

I dont see why they would. If they did i would think they would franchise him and not trade him till sometime next year after they see if the team improves at all.

If they don't tag him, he's a free agent. It wasn't a very good time for him to get injured. Still, I don't see any way Miami lets him hit the open market.

It's never too early for mock's. I'll have a 2014 mock out soon :D.

With the new rokie wage scale if they thought they could replace him they could do it at a huge savings. I don't think they can replace him, although he just wenton IR with a bicept tear so they might be concerned that he isn't aging well and injuries might become an issue. Only 27 though.

Barkley likely goes earlier

for all the bagging on him, and USC QBs havent inspired confidence in the pros -- there is a lot to like about him.

very good ( but not great) physical tools -- he understands the position and played in a pro style offense. There will always be the question on if the athletes around him made him appear far better than he was, ala Leinart and Sanchez. That being said, I think some team that really needs a QB takes him in the top 12

I see Geno Smith going top 10 for sure.

Im hoping KC goes on a winning streak and we are looking at drafting Geno, we need to revitalize this team with something exciting like RGIII did for Washington even if they might not be a playoff team this year.

Geno Smith and Barkley will most likely go in the top 10.

I don't know about Barkley. In talking to some USC dudes at work, they admit he gets some air under his throws. It's not like he throws any kind of rope and his recievers might be the best in college. He makes bad decisions a bit too consistently forcing things.

On radio yesterday they were saying we're mtl going to restructure Kolb look at some others and go with the best OL or DL as they are by far the most plentiful in the 1st RD. in some time.

Every chance in the world. He is expensive, can't stay on the field, and wants a mega contract. Miami is salivating at an opportunity to trade him, except he is a free agent.

Long, the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, becomes an unrestricted free agent in March, and if the Dolphins want to put the franchise tag on him, they’d need to guarantee him $15.3 million for 2013. That would be a huge investment for an offensive lineman whose play has declined this season in new coach Joe Philbin’s offense.

Mark it down. Geno Smith is the 2013 NFL #1 pick. If Cam Newton can go #1, Smith is a lock.

I said Barkley in the top ten only because I think some team will reach to take him. The Cards could go OL in rd 1 and QB in Rd 2. It really depends on who is there when they Pick. But you are right, its a better draft year for OL & DL than QBs in Round 1.

I was really hoping that Georgia would win the SEC championship game, beat ND and leave nothing for Aaron Murray, Georgia's QB to come back for --

I still hope he declares for the draft --- I think he is a very intriguing QB option

I am willing to bet that Smith & Barkley don't go in the top 10. Wilson might not either.

From what I hear, Murray will come out because his biggest issues are height and arm strength and those issues aren't significantly improvable over another year.

while I dont know about height -- I saw adequate arm strength, coupled with a nice quick release against Alabama

This is very similar to the year Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers went in the first round where the need for QBs outweighed the overall talent of the QBs available. That is why there was such a large gap between the draft position of Smith and Rodgers. I believe the difference lies this year in the cost effectiveness of QBs high in the first round. I think the need for QBs and the cost effectiveness in the first round will drive Geno Smith, Matt Barkley and maybe Tyler Wilson higher than what their overall body of work and talent warrants.

good point about the contract

a few years ago a QB taken at, lets say #6 would have been really, really expensive. So taking a qb high was both opportunity cost of the #6 spot + a giant contract

now -- not so much on the contract. If you are down to just the opportunity cost of the #6 spot, I can see teams being more willing to reach

This guys is interesting although I think he has our R1 pick too low. Jake Long would be nice.

As long as we take a QB in round 1 I am in on about anything else. I think we will likely pick in the top 5 which should net us one of the top 3 QBs. Wilson I hope. With the QBs we have now I do not see how we win any more games unless the defense does all the scoring. We have an amazing group of QBs for a NFL team. Never have so few done so little. You look at these guys and wonder how could we possible end up with such a group. Two of the three probably could not even make he practice squad of some other NFL team and the third one is so injury prone and paid so much no one would want him.

Tomorrow - if the computer gods smile brightly - I hope to finish posting a page on the BRS listing every bowl game and participating draft prospects (including each player's overall BPA rank, position rank and projected round - according to nfldraftscouts.com).

(Note - sorry I can't post a linky - it's an I-pad thing).
