I think this coming year will tell if he has the ability, but I think he is definitely ready now to show us exactly what he has. He is no longer the prodigy with everything a given. He has gone through some highs and some lows and now he knows it will take a lot of work and dedication to keep his job and to keep doing the thinng that he wants to do. Which is to be an NFL starting quarterback.

I don't like to make predictions,-----especially ones involving whether or not a player is going to make it or not in the NFL, because there are so many variables. In this case, however, we have had glimpses of what we are likely to see with Matt Leinart at the helm of the Cardinals offense.

Matt is not a strong armed QB by any sense of the imagination, BUT his arm is strong enough to lead this team.

Matt is not as accurate as Kurt was, but he is accurate enough to accomplish what Coach Whiz will want to do with his passing attack.

Matt will never put up the numbers that Kurt would have, but Coach Whiz will make this a run-first team that opens things up for the pass. This suits Matt's qualities quite well. He is a gifted ball handler, who excells in the play-action mode. While not considered light-footed, Matt is far from the plodder that Kurt was, and moves within the pocket better than Kurt did. He will probably take fewer hits than Kurt did, BUT, he is not nearly so tough mentally or physically as Kurt was, and may not be able to withstand what Kurt could.

More than likely, Matt will have a MUCH stronger, deeper, and more reliable defense on the field than Kurt had with the Cardinals. If need be, our offense is pretty much set, even without the draft or free agency, although we will probably address the TE and the OT positions during this off-season. I believe a great deal of attention will be given to improve the defensive side of the ball this off-season, and that the overwhelming majority of the players signed will be on that side of the ball. While free agency is somewhat up in the air due to the CBA, this draft class is deep in line backers and defensive linemen. There are also a number of quality CB's and safeties to choose from in this draft. I believe that as many as 5 draft picks will go to the defensive side of the ball, and rightfully so. This is definitely the draft to do this with, because of the depth of talent on that side of the ball available this year.

I believe that the Cardinals team that Matt leads, will be a balanced offense that runs the ball as much or more than it passes. I believe that it will be effective in eating up clock, (in order to preserve defensive freshness and strength), but will still be formidable in scoring. I believe that Matt's Cardinals will be different from what we have been used to, BUT that they will be successful none-the-less.

I hope that Matt continues his strength training, so he is better able to withstand the hits that inevitably come with the game. Matt knows this playbook, (he has a near photographic memory). Matt knows this staff, and he trusts it. I believe that the key to his success at the helm of this team is whether or not he is able to control his emotions.

He will surely be very excited when he gets his first start, and may even throw several passes high and long before he settles in to his position. I believe that he will overcome this too, and will become the QB that we have looked for as the Quarterback of the Future for this team.

I also believe that we will have several shots at winning it all under his field leadership, provided that the coaching staff remains under Whiz's tutelage.

I might be wrong about this, but this is truly how I see it. Take umberage with this if you must, but I have given this much thought and study, and I believe that the time, and the personnel are right for this to happen, and to happen in a big way for us Cardinals fans. Your thoughts Shane?

If Kurt retires I am sure Leinart's role will be drastically different. We will move toward a ball control running team with a more than valid receiving game. we will move toward a 50% pass 50% run. Unlike our 60% to 40% with Warner. We are possibly going to lose one of the most prolific passers in NFL history. Leinart will not be expected to to do what Warner does but will be asked to manage. I hope BEANIE is ready. Also, our D is going to have to find a way to stop giving up the big plays. We were much better in this area but still far from a Steelers/Ravens D.

Warner...ONE MORE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To answer the question...Yes, Leinart is ready to manage.

I think many of you underestimate how much passing Matt will be asked to do. We still have the best receiving corps in the NFL. Matt was pretty accurate in college, and still is very good at moving up in the pocket to buy time for his receivers. He needs to work on timing and vision a little, but quite frankly most of that is a matter of comfort that only come with real time reps.

And you know, there once lived a lefty who was highly touted out of college, put up bad numbers early, was relegated to backup and considered a bust not so long ago. His name was Steve Young.

Pretty accurate in college is fine when DBs are 5 yards off the WR.

Pretty accurate in the NFL means INTs or Killing your WRs.

One thing going in Matt's/our favor is that three guys I could find who took over as starter after sitting for a couple of years behind a future HOF type QB were Danny White, Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers.

I'd be very happy if Matt just matched what White did with the Cowboys.

I could live with that. Although White didn't really win anything that mattered.

Maybe so. Considering he will "probably work harder this season than he did last season" ;)

I just dont see the reason everyone has been quoting it the past two days..

"probably" work harder. You really don't understand the issue with that? Could just be poor word choice by Matt. But come on man he should be saying something like "this is my time now and Im gonna work harder than I ever have this off season"

Im not gonna get worked up over what or how he said it.. Fact is, the Leinart haters on here will distort what he said to rip the guy no matter what he says.. Personally.. I think what Matt meant by the "probably" part was he was thinking Warner was gonna retire but wasnt sure yet.. He thought Warner was "probably" gonna retire.. But thats me, and the last time I will be debating that..

I find this debate amusing some of you most have never worked out befor. If you have you would know after you do your capable of doing more. You then from time to time say your going to work even harder or "probably do more". That does not mean you weren't working as hard as you could have befor. I think people should just file this under my hate got the best of me time to move on.

Too many people are trying to read between the lines with Matty right now. Most are looking for a reason to throw him under the bus. I on the other hand am giving him 100% support. I don't think there is a better QB available for this offense (and no, McNabb is not coming here).

As long as he stays healthy and is able to set his feet and not sail the ball we (and he) will be fine. He has good recognition of where to go with the ball and evade the rush.

He just doesn't put the ball where it needs to be as consistently as Warner did, but who does? I am hoping that Matts presence gets stronger when he knows he's "the guy."

Although even the most ardent supporter would have to be nervous about what we get out of the Qb position next year.
