They play no one of significance. The Big 10 is really bad this year, more so than last, which means their in conference games are tainted. So if they walk into the BCS Championship game, do they get smashed again? They are the best of the Big 10, but... so what.

Finally will the media realize that the sun does not rise and shine on the Big Ten?
It is very competitive within itself. But they still get their 7 bowl bids.

They will get seven bowl bids, because they have seven contracts, just like the other big boys.

Big Ten, even in a down year like this year, is still better overall than the ACC or Big East.

Ohio State should be called 10-2 U. They have these great teams, but ALWAYS find a way to lose a game they shouldn't. Wow. They're sort of like those old Alabama teams: when the running game is good, you knew they were going to punish every team on their schedule and the defense was going to be the impenetrable force. Against a team with some speed on offense and spreads the defense out, though, you knew they would be in trouble -- short of the Namath/Stabler years and later the Richard Todd years, they didn't have the offensive system to come from behind. The offense was designed for 16-play, 10 minutes drives. Not 2 minute explosions.

That said, Illini are very talented and they're going to get more talented. They may never be undefeated, but as long as Ron Zook is there they'll at least have the talent to run the Big 10. Curious how many of them will stick around. Juice Williams was the bluest of blue chippers but he went to Chicago Vocational. He wasn't going to go to Notre Dame or someplace like that.

I buy it, but they are still only the 4th best conference, and not close to the top 3. I'll take that.

Prove to me otherwise...

Big East:

2006:
5-0 Bowls 2006
27-8 Non Conference record

2007:
22-10 Non Conference Record
14-7 against the other five BCS conferences.

The Big Ten has been living off tradition for years:

"The bottom line is that most voters in the polls are old-school people who believe the Big Ten is still the Big Ten," ESPN college football analyst Mark May said Wednesday. "Ohio State is No. 1 basically by default. They get respect because they played in the national championship game last season, even though they got torched by Florida, and because they haven't lost this season."

Better yet, The Saggarin ratings see the toughest conferences as:

1 SOUTHEASTERN (A) = 80.77
2 BIG 12 (A) = 78.25
3 BIG EAST (A) = 78.23
4 ATLANTIC COAST (A) = 77.83
5 PAC-10 (A) = 77.68
6 BIG TEN (A) = 74.66
7 MOUNTAIN WEST (A) = 68.91
8 I-A INDEPENDENTS (A) = 62.83
9 WESTERN ATHLETIC (A) = 61.70

It has been proven many times over this year, last year, etc. The same old story. Terrible scheduling out of conference with wins over pushover teams. Terrible results in bowl games.

SEC, ACC, PAC 10 are the elite conferences based on OOC schedules and bowl performance. The Big 10 has a huge fan base and media coverage. The majority of NFL players come from those conferences while the Big 10 cranks out duds, with a few exceptions. The big 10 is stale hype and in conference rivalries.

How about the Big 10 (11) fans proving their conference is legitimate? :D
