This thought just dawned on me. We all know that when they signed him they told him they were going after Palmer and if they got him Palmer would be the starter. But what if they told him that Palmer would be the starter for this season and maybe open competition next year.

BA knows and likes him. I believe he was willing to go with Stanton if we didn't get Palmer. Is it that much of a stretch to believe BASK are thinking he is the future QB of the Cardinals?

Not a chance in my opinion. He is a backup and I believe BA knows it. Our QBOF is not on the roster yet.

I don't think we have the QB of the future on this roster either. Not sure how we are going to get one either when we are playing good enough ball to pick lower in the draft.

I don't think anyone told Stanton about Palmer till all of sudden Palmer became available, so I do not think he was told about Palmer when signed because not even the Cardinals thought it would be a possibility. Is he our QB of the future...no, or we would have never went after Palmer because Stanton has more than enough experience to start if they felt he was good enough. If you feel a younger vet in Stanton is your future QB, you do not acquire Palmer :)

I don't remember this at all. Pure conjecture?

Colin Kaepernick - Round: 2 / Pick: 36
Russell Wilson - Round: 3 / Pick: 75

This draft class is loaded. If a team ever wanted to draft a QBOF this is the class to do it in. I would even be fine with passing on a tackle to draft a QB this year in the first round.

Didn't Stanton have some starts with the Lions when Stafford went down with a shoulder injury? I think I'll go try and find some stats on him and I reckon NFL.com is a good place to start.

Edit: Yeah he did, but his numbers were anything but promising.

I'm leaning more towards a 2nd or 3rd round QB at this point.

There's probably going to be a run of 4-5 QBs before we pick, but then all the QB needy teams will have taken care of the position and won't be picking one in the 2nd or 3rd. That's where we can find a guy like Boyd, perhaps, who was considered a 1st rounder going into the season but has slipped a bit.

On topic, Stanton has been around long enough that what you see is what you get. The guy isn't a QBOF. He's a quality backup who can play well enough that your defense can still win for you when your starter gets hurt. He won't take you to the SB. He probably won't even lead you from behind to victory under normal circumstances. But he can be adequate.

Why would a 29 year old that can't beat out an average Carson Palmer be the QBOF?

Brees round 2.

Dalton round 2.

Kolb round 2. :)

I'm thinking Mettenberger is the guy the Cards get later in round 1 or trade up into round 2.

Carr was my original hope but he's played himself up into maybe a top 10 pick.

Tom Brady round 7
Kurt Warner undrafted

I guess it could be said that a QBOF doesn't have to be a top 10 pick.

I will say this about Ryan Lindley, I thought he played much better last summer than he did in his first REGULAR season starts. I know not too many fans think very highly of him (I'm up in the air), but maybe with experience he'll get better.

Just say no to Boyd.

Well Mettenberger and Murray [wasn't crazy about him] tore their ACL's. This draft is suddenly very suspect as far as QB's go.

Man this team seems to never have anything more than a rental QB.
