Hey Diamondback fans where are you? I consider myself a staunch fan but tonight's dreadful drubbing says to me the fire sale may not be far away even though the wild card race is being kicked around by all interested parties like a leper.

What do you all think? When does management conclude they aren't going to the playoffs?

Can we chalk this up as one of the worst moments in Dbacks history? I think the Dbacks marketing team can time travel, cause they sure hit it on the head with "You Never Know Whats Next"

Id say that loss just ended the season, but i just dont know what to think anymore

Until some team does grab the thing by the throat and run off, I think we're as much in it as they are. Philly is playing as bad, or worse, as SchillingFan irritably reminds me often.

Besides which, I don't see a fire sale - not like there's a lot of fire to sell -

What would show me the organization is semi-serious about a late run? Find a way to convince Q he has a terminally ingrown nose hair, and put him on the 60-day or cut him or something, and take his spot for DeVore. Why not? Hard to imagine he'd be a drop in production! Tell Grace he needs to come in for one last game this weekend and retire on the spot, so we can thank him officially, and bring up Tracy. Put poor dear Kop out of his misery on the 60-day and put Bruney on the 40-man roster. Just cut Myers, and Oh, yes, Oropesa also has that deadly nose-hair thing, I hear -

In other words, get the half-dozen utterly unproductive guys off the 40-man, and the 3 or 4 wasteds off the 25-man roster, and bring in some new blood. There is no way a mere 22-man roster can make a run. The DBacks aren't going to pick up anyone from outside the organization, that's obvious - but we have a few guys in the minors who HAVE to be modest improvements over what is there, which is almost-nothing.

Sign I'd like to see: "THEO EPSTEIN WAS RIGHT."

I am disappointed in that just when the Dbacks play a team they should blow out of the park and sweep they drop 2 because of pitching. This team is feast or famine. I think the guys are going to mail in the rest of the season.

I didn't realize Hillenbrand's defense was that bad.

Boy, you sure take things for granted when you've seen Matty Williams, Mark Grace, and even Travis Lee or Lyle Overbay manning the corners.

Can Hillebrand ever improve? Or, is he destined for the American League? This guy scares me whenever I see him have to dig.

If the Fat Lady isn't singing, she is warming up in her dressing room...

I couldn't post after watching the eighth inning last night - what we lack in hitting is matched by our horrible defense, and now it appears as though our once reliable bullpen is joining the fun!!
At the risk of sounding like a total idiot (easy for me to do), is it possible that Hillenbrand is no upgrade over....Matty?? We were so relieved that Williams was released by the club, yet other than a few percentage points in BA & OBP, what's the difference between Shea & Matty? Oh yeah, DEFENSE! Matty was still a very good defensive player, yet Shea is barely adequate at 1B or 3B!! Also, I'm still puzzled why the team thinks Hillenbrand is better than Overbay at first - Lyle may not be the power solution the team wants, but at least he puts the damn ball in play, something Hillenbrand fails to do quite often!!

Did Chad Tracy have an affair with someone's wife in the front office? Just curious - there must be a logical explanation why he hasn't been called up yet!!

In a nutshell Hillenbrand makes about 500k and Matt made 10.5million per with about slightly better offense from Shane. Shane is a true DH from the looks of his fielding. The good news is he has a great work ethic and attitude.
Kata looks like he's hit the wall offensively and yet Brenly keeps throwing him out there. I am starting to hope they don't make the playoffs because it might be downright embarrassing.

As for Tracy stranger things have happened on teams. Didn't the former Mets GM have an affair with someone's wife. I know the football Cowboys had this with Switzer and some front office guy's wife. Oh well.

Matt still made $10M this year from us. Nobody should forget that we are still paying for Womack and Matt this year ($17M total). We did not save $9.5M with SheAAAA, we "saved" about $1.5M (from Kim)

But, it was obvious that Matt would be off the books next year and his futility as an offensive player would have ended with this team. SheAAAA's futility is just beginning, seeing as how he's just now arbitration eligable. He also offers us another position quandry as he's not capable of being a servicable 3Bman right now (and most likely not in the future either) and he doesn't have the offense to take up a spot at 1B. What do we do with Overbay next year? I doubt Tracy is ready for MLB (according to the DBacks) so 3B will need to be maned again (Kata or Counsell resigned?). IMO, long term, we were better of with Williams this year instead of Hillenbrand.

Tracy isn't on the 40 man roster so he cannot be called up in Sept or any other time unless we drop somebody from the 40 man.

Indy, I'm not sure who you are crediting with the extra points in AVG and OBP. Shea's AVG is about .030 points higher than Williams, but Matty had about .020 points of OBP over Shea.

The question regarding Overbay is:

Are .060 points of OBP worth more or less than .090 points of SLG%? If their equal, then doesn't the younger and better defender get the tie-breaker?

Like I said before, I can sound like an idiot with ease...I wasn't specific in my stat recalling, my point being that Shea & Matty offensively seemed to be the same, yet Williams was far better defensively; we had to pay him $10 million whether he played or not. Regardless, it's a moot point now, and I hope Shea does improve both on the field & at the plate.

I was being sarcastic in saying that Tracy was having an affair, but is it true that his not being on the 40-man roster means he cannot be recalled on Sept. 1 without someone losing a spot on the roster? Ouch!

Well, I guess I have shoved my foot far enough in my mouth for awhile, so enjoy the long weekend everybody - - it's off to Lake Huron for me!!

GO D'BACKS - SWAT THE GNATS!!

Neither Tracy nor Bruney (nor Reyes) are on the 40 man, but ONE of them may be added, since we currently only have 39 guys on it. My guess is Bruney. If Koplove were to go on the 60-day DL NOW, we could get another spot on the 40-man. Or if Grace were to step down. Or Myers were to be cut. Or ...

But, it is reportedly unlikely that anyone (other than maybe Bruney) will get added to the 40-man in order to be called up. In which case, why not do it before 9/1 and help our bullpen a little bit?

I'm curious where it was heard that the DBacks don't think Tracy is ready? He's been named one of the best defensive 3rd basemen in the PCL, which is a HUGE improvement for him. He's been hitting .310-.325 all season, with about a 1 or 2 week blip in June, I think it was (with a decent OBP for the most part, around .360).

Last night was just terrible. I feel sorry for the releivers as they are over worked. Some of it is Brenly's fault for keeping Myers and not adding a someone who can pitch a few innings. Viareal has now appeared in 72 games. His arm must be tired.

The fact that the pitchers are only going 6 innings has exhausted the bullpen and they won't or can't bring up some help from the minors until Sep 1.

I think that the Fat Lady is warming up her voice.

It's Amazing what a mini win streak can do for your confidence, I don't think the fat lady is even awake yet! we have the talent to put together a strong finish, & I think the vets on this team will soon start to rise to the occasion. we have three quality pitchers that can shut anyone down on any given night, and our 4 & 5 are stronger then any other year. I know for a fact there are alot of Giant fans that are scared of the thought of the Dbacks making the playoffs, Because they are a dangerous team. we need some positive vibes from us fans to help out! It's our job as great fans to think positive thoughts...
