By this I do not mean free agency exactly. I expect any deal for Peterson to go down on draft day but maybe it is not Peterson at all... maybe the Cards cleared cap space to make a deal on draft day for someone else with a large salary :)

What cap space? I see $9 million and change. That will pay for the rookie draft class and some low money free agents to fill holes not addressed by the draft.

Rookie class is already taken into account with the 9 million still available

Hardy's gone. Wisniewski is available, but Arians specifically sought out his old player AQ Shipley, so that probably won't happen.

It's either Peterson or waiting for some unexpected cap casualties yet upcoming.

This team is not going to sit on dead space with the cap they created... that is why I still believe that Peterson is a possibility and if not there must be somebody else little big Bidwill wants :)

No, it's not. They have 9.9M, and have to spend about 4 on draft picks, leaving about 6M.
Someone needs to clarify then, because I agree with Cheese. My understanding was that the draft pool was already, automatically deducted from the available monies we're looking at. Is that wrong?

The only other player that's out there is Justin Houston and they will need more money than that to sign him. Would love to see Wisnewsky signed but I think Shipley will be the new Ryan Lindley signing.

Sorry Snake, I think you forgot how bad Lindley was... I do not think Shipley is the center equivalent lol

No the draft pick costs have been deducted from the total already. See at the botton of the link.

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/ has the Cardinals at $9.1 million. The spotrac link has them at $4.5 million after the draft.

Going into the season with no money limits them to signing non-veteran players at league minimum who won't count against the cap (by not being in the top 51 salaries).

Pro rated money becomes dead money if a player is no longer on the roster. That precludes the Cardinals shipping Patrick Peterson or Calais Campbell to the Vikings in return for Adrian Peterson. Any package the Cardinals could put together to free up the $15 million in cap space needed for Adrian Peterson would have to include Jared Veldheer or Mike Iupati (or both) and some more bodies. What good is having a running back if you have to gut your offensive line to get him?

Why would you ever do that?
Trade young defensive stars for an older player at a position with short careers?

We can do this and not get into cap hell with Fitz & Palmers contracts.

From an old ESPN article:

One of the nice parts of the 2011 collective bargaining agreement is the "carryover." Teams that don't spend all of their cap dollars in a particular year can carry over those dollars to the next year. It's a team's decision how much it wants to carry over.

They can turn CC's $9m salary into a bonus and count about half against the 2015 CAP. The can cut Alexander, adding approximately $1.5M and they can extend Powers and collect a few or more million that way.

And, we don't need $13m CAP dollars in 2015 to add Pederson. No team is accepting his present deal. I would imagine that any 3 or 4 year new deal would lower his CAP hit to the 8, 9m range.

If they could add Houston for say a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year at a decent contract and draft a back in the first round. That would be amazing as well. But I just see us having enough money to do that...but I've been wrong before. That whole Wednesday thing causes me to wake up screaming in the night

I think we might wait. There's always a few decent vets who come available between June and the end of preseason. Last year it was Kelly. Two years ago it was Abraham.

The AP coming to Az thread. Birdman said it was going to happen several Wednesdays ago. I still believe! :D

Several?! :D

Slight exaggeration, we have only had 1 Wednesday since I was told it would occur. So several is a bit extreme

*lowers head realizing he'll never live down the Wednesday comment*
