since the free agent pool is all but dry.....is the fitz re-structuring a sign that the cards want to free up money NOW so they may extend others?

how does the order go realistically....?

Dansby
Warner (cuz it prob wont take much discussion)
Wilson
Boldin

Aside from an overpriced player or two the free agent pool was other teams yawns. I would hope that the money saved is spent on our tier one players...and I will bet that for all practical puposes that is what we will see. If you recall last year, if we just cut down the number of penalties we will be able to make major improvements this year.

Money should go to
Gandy
Dansby
Boldin

over the next year or so.

Shouldn't a Gandy and/or Dansby restructure actually lower their current cap hit?

I think we are going to have to redo both Boldin and Wilson contracts in the not too distant future, both of which will eat up a lot more cap space then they are taking up now.

Dansby

Agreed. Chillar may now be signed. Also, i hope they Drew Carter on the next flight in. He's a perfect #3WR to stretch the field.
I'll bet the Cards are looking to the future with that position. They need to find a guy on the second day that might be a gem in the rough. A guy that might blossom into a starter at some point (in the event they have to cut ties with Fitz or Boldin at some point down the line).

Carter has proven he can be a stretch the field guy, but he's also proven he's not a good starter.

Yeah but I meant with impact players that could help our team right away.....but by all means list some that could help. I've had my head buried in fitzgerald news for the last 3 weeks

Even if Carter would be signed, i think they have to look to draft a WR sometime. THe 2 later round guys(late 3rd/4th) i have my eye on are Earl Bennett and Jordy Nelson. Nelson is the guy i really want.

FA's: Naole (OG), Haggans (OLB), Law (CB), Bironas (restricted K) and Chillar (OLB) could all help out..........just to name a few......

In the last ESPN mag, Clayton says he expected Haggans to sign with the Cards. Bironas would be awesome but Tenn would probably match any offer that wasn't insane.

isnt Haggans old? would he back up Hayes? How does he perform in the 3-4?

Yes, but so is Berry. I figure Berry plays the first 1/2 of the season, gets hurt, and then Haggans plays the 2nd half. That works for me :).

We have almost 40 roster spots to fill by the first minicamp. I'd say most of that space will be used on that.

He's old, (31) but I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing. His numbers have been in decline the last few years, but we wouldn't be talking about big money here. A modest contract to come in, back up the position, and provide some veteran presence would be a great idea, IMO.

Since Laboy is Berrys competitor right now I would assume that Haggans would be the competition/backup to Okeafers spot the spot we brought in Chillar to man if we would have signed him.

Berry, Okeafer, Laboy, Haggans, Hayes, Dansby, Biesel, would be a very good veristile rotation for our LB core IMO.

There are still some good depth and role players to be had if we wanted them.

Make that 32 more players to get to the 80. Also we only need 3 more players to get to the 51 players that count under the cap. So us being at only 48 players is very overratted right now considering we only need 3 more players that will count against the cap.

He played OLB opposite Porter/Harrison in the Steelers 3-4. He's a very, very solid starter, but nothing fancy.

He is 31 years old and that might be a problem - especially since he had an off year this season
