yao rarely ever jumps. for one it probably takes every ounce of strength he has to get up 6 inches and for two he can dunk on his tip-toes.

Give this guy a break. Aside from playing the Suns tempo, he is one of the best big men in NBA. Amare did a good job bodying him up without reaching in for cheat fouls. Marion got a couple of nice weak side help blocks as a results. Let's keep it up.

If Yao was 6 inches shorter he would still be one of the great centers in this league.

The Suns are simply his kryptonite.

i'm not sure i would go that far. he is one of the best now, yes. he is not very athletic so without the distinct height advantage over everyone guarding him i'm not sure he would score like he does. he would probably also find his J getting blocked a lot more.

Don't you think that's an insult to Rik Smits? That guy made multiple All-NBA back in the 90s!;)

IMHO, Smits was solid but no world beater. He was tall and could shoot, but he averaged 26.6 minutes a game (never over 31), 6.1 rpg (only one year over 7 rpg when he 7.7), career 14.8 ppg (top was 1.5) on just over 50%.

Probably the Pacer's best year was 1997-98 when they lost to the Bulls in seven games in the WCF. He had lots of help.

This soft guy gives Duncan fits. And Parker was really hesitant driving to the hoops in the last Spurs-Rockets game I saw on TV. Suns have no answer for these two!

There is no doubt that a really tall guy with long arms gives the Spurs trouble. I felt Zydrunas Ilgauskas did as good a job as anybody against Duncan.

Unfortunately, most guys tall enough to give Duncan trouble are simply not quick enough or strong enough to be much help doing anything else. Still, you can understand why the Warrriors are messing around with Kosta Perovic since he's at least long enough.

True.
It's like a rock-scissor-paper game. It's quite lame for paper to call rock "soft", or scissor do that to paper.

weak argument. Marion literally jumped a half a second before Yao tried to dunk the ball, just to get high enough to block it.

He played strong today.

This is why I think Duncan is so overrated. Yao and Zydrunas give him fits, two immobile centers slow as molasses. These guys are so slow, why cant timmy just take them off the dribble or shoot over them? Answer: he cant jump and isn't quick. The Robinson/Hakeem/Patrick centers of the 90's would have all given him major fits if he had to play against them. Hakeem would chew him up and spit him out, being a much better jumper, much quicker and the same size.

Duncan is a very good shot blocker and shooter. Talking about guys who are out of the league is pretty lame.

His shooting is very effective against guys who are only moderately tall, but less so against really long guys who can't get pushed around easily. But he hardly overrated as a truly great player.

Duncan is often referred to as "the all time greatest power forward" who is really at least a defensive center, Duncan is free game to evaluate against guys that are out of the league. Of course, I agree the comparison is lame if Duncan is not considered an "all time great". I do consider him certainly amont the top 50 players of all time, or I wouldnt make the comparison with other top 50 players. Of course if you cant remember Olajuwon, McHale, David Robinson, Jabbar or Ewing, there is of course nothing to talk about. I think Duncans speed(or lack thereof) and strength, size combo make him more a center than a PF. If lame topics were removed from this board, what would happen to all the "so and so sucks", and I hate DA threads, probably 50 every fall of each.

On a good NBA team under NBA rules etc. Duncan is till the most dangerous guy in the NBA and has the rings to prove it. IMHO, without Duncan, the Spurs don't get out of the first round.
