The NCAA Frozen Four will have two familiar women's hockey foes. The University of Wisconsin and the Ohio State Buckeyes will face-off, yet again, for an NCAA national championship.
How It Happened
The two teams have been the #1 and #2 ranked programs all season.
In the Frozen Four semi-finals, Laila Edwards scored a hat trick to lead the #1 Wisconsin Badgers to a 6-2 win over #4 Minnesota. Also scoring for the Badgers were Caroline Harvey, Kirsten Simms and Casey O'Brien.
O'Brien's performance helped her record her 88th point of the season. It was a new single season record for a Wisconsin player.
"I was just focused on contributing as much as I could to the team's success, and, yeah, it's cool, but that's not what the focus on," said O'Brien. "It's on the team and the next game, it's really all it is."
Now it's a return to the final against Ohio State, who beat them 1-0 last year in the NCAA final.
Ohio State beat Cornell in a closely fought 4-2 game.
After Joy Dunne opened the scoring recording a pair in the opening period to make it 2-0. Lily Delianedis and Kaitlyn Jockims tied things for Cornell in the second period.
Brooke Disher broke the 2-2 tie in the third period, before Makenna Webster scored an insurance marker to lift Ohio State to the 4-2 win.
Ohio State plays Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at 4pm.
