The weather is heating up and so is the action on the high school spring sports scene.

We've got another collection of talented athletes for you to vote for in our Athlete of the Week contest.

But first, a shoutout to last week's winner. You chose Max Mora from La Quinta baseball who had about the best single game one could ever have on a baseball diamond. In a win against Palm Springs, Mora threw a no-hitter with a whopping 17 strikeouts. He also went 4 for 4 at the plate with two singles, a double and a home run. That's adding some value to your team for sure.

This week's winner is up to you. Simply read the accomplishments of this week's five honorees and vote for your favorite in the poll at the bottom of this article at desertsun.com.

Whoever has the most votes at noon on Saturday will be that week's winner. And as always, we love nominations. If you know a player from any spring sport — baseball, softball, track and field, swimming, tennis, golf etc. — that has performed particularly well, please send us the details to [email protected].

Without further ado, here are this week's honorees. Happy voting!

Jaeda Diaz, Indio softball

What she did: The Rajahs pulled out a 3-2 win over a tough San Jacinto team, and Diaz did all the offensive damage. She hit a solo home run and a two-run homer to lead the Rajahs to victory. She's up to nine homers and 24 RBIs in 13 games so far.

Savannah Hunt, Desert Christian Academy softball

What she did: Hunt, a junior, had a huge day at the plate in a league win over California Military Institute. She was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, five runs scored and a whopping six stolen bases.

Max Margolis, Palm Desert golf

What he did: Margolis fired a sizzling 3-under 69 on the Pete Dye Challenge Course at Mission Hills Country Club as Palm Desert scored a 364-372 victory over a powerful Santa Margarita squad in a clash of two of Southern California's best teams.

Jesus Rivera, Coachella Valley baseball

What he did: Rivera pitched a gem in the Arabs' 4-0 win over Beaumont last week. The senior gave up one single and that was it. It was a complete-game shutout, no walks, three strikeouts and faced a total of 22 batters to get 21 outs.

Cielo Verduzco, La Quinta track and field

What she did: Verduzco made a major impact in the Blackhawks' dual meet win over Palm Desert. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.90 seconds, the 300-meter hurdles in 49.50 and was on the winning 4-by-400 meter relay team.
