Now that the Suns are officially illuminated its time to play the lotto game. Game thing they got protection in that Houston trade. At least we won't have to suffer the embarrassment of watching the Rockets draft the next Rondo/Iggy this year.

I spun the wheel and got the Suns drafting Jordan Hamilton.

Got Jordan Hamilton as well. I don't know a ton about how the NBA lottery works but what are the odds the suns could slip into top 10?

It would be nice if we got the #9 pick.

We only seem to have luck with that pick. Marion was drafted by PHX #9 overall. Then Amare was drafted by PHX #9 overall.

Looks like Jazz is doing everything to lose the remainder of their game. :)

The lottery is only for the top three picks. The rest of the teams draft in the order of worse record. So the Suns can only draft 1-3 or around 12-14. Currently they are at #13, with only Houston having a better record among non-playoff teams.

With only a few games remaining, realistically only the Utah Jazz could finish with a better record than the Suns among the teams currently in the lottery, but they have lost 7 straight games.

The odds of Phoenix securing a top three pick with the 13th worst record are 0.6% (1st overall) + 0.7% (2nd overall) + 0.9% (3rd overall) = 2.2%. Should Utah pass Phoenix, those odds would improve to 2.5%.

In other words, the Suns could lose every single game left and still will most likely pick no higher than 12th.

Unless they've changed it again, you can only move up into the top 3 spots from where we are. The lottery only works for those picks and everybody else then falls into their pre-lottery order.

Utah is smart. Their tanking.

Only if PHX was half as smart. That game against LAC should have been a loss.

It makes so little difference. What is the point of selling your integrity for that?

I've played that lottery probably 25 times yesterday and today and it always comes out #13, Jordan Hamilton.

So say lightening does strike. The Suns get 3. Who do you take?

Its hard to say, who's on the board? There's no clear #1 pick right now and since we don't know the order yet we don't know which teams will pick #1 and 2 (who will likely have 'need' higher in their picking equation this year than other years).

Even as an ASU fan I'd be fine/happy if the Suns took Derrick Williams there. I don't think he's a franchise type player, I think his ceiling is a fringe All Star type who maybe makes 1 ASG over his career. A David West type seems like a good comparison. Getting a guy who's pretty likely a sure thing as far as being a starter quality over a long career seems to be about all you can hope for in this draft.

I'm sure the Suns will beat all the odds anyhow and finally get the #1 pick but in a historically weak draft.

No, we can just suffer the dissapointment of drafting the next Earl Clark or Robin Lopez. :p

If we look at the big picture we should let Utah pass us and get the 12th. It also gives us a few more ping pong balls and a slightly better chance of getting a top 3 pick. I am not saying I like the idea of tanking but these are the rules

With our luck, we'd move ahead of Utah & they'd win a top 3 pick in the lottery.

If tanking is really such an obvious choice wouldn't it make sense for the Clippers also? Between the two of us, which team do you think is likely to excel at the art of tanking - a perennial playoff team or the long-time hapless Clippers?

IMO, organizations might occasionally (rarely) tank but players aren't likely to and I can't see the Suns risking that kind of attention for what is likely to be a lost cause in pursuit of such a minor move in the draft.

Why the hell would the Clippers tank when they dont even have their own pick this year?!

If anything, they would try to win as many games as possible.

In a van...down by the river.
So,have ya'll enjoyed the Suns .500 season?
Was this 2010-'11 Nashball recycle job worth it? This might be a poll-worthy question.

No playoffs and sneaking into the lottery.....no mans land.
Good job Suns.

Just now I rolled two dice and I got a 2 and a 5. Just thought people might find that interesting.
