Tennis legend Ivan Lendl continues his winning ways on the pickleball court, and this time he partnered with a former tennis opponent to sweep the competition.

Lendl (65) and Mikael Pernfors (61) were never seriously challenged Thursday in Holly Hill, where they won the Pictona Challenge 2025’s 60-69 men’s doubles, 4.5+.

In five preliminary matches that consisted of just one game, played to 15 instead of the standard 11, the Lendl-Pernfors duo never gave up more than four points in a game and won four of them by either 15-1 or 15-0.

In the final, played under standard scoring, they beat Ron Steege and Jager Meister Smith 11-6, 11-1.

Lendl is also competing in Friday’s mixed doubles, with Jean Halahan, in the 4.5+, age 60-74 division.

Lendl and Pernfors both live in Vero Beach. While Lendl is among the all-time tennis greats (94 titles, eight majors, 270 weeks as World No. 1), Pernfors was among those occasionally dispatched on his way.

The native Swede isn’t without tennis credentials, however: 1993 Canadian Open champ, 1986 French Open finalist (where he lost to Lendl), two-time Davis Cupper. He reached as high as No. 10 in the world rankings.
