Eastwood+DiCaprio? No way this will be bad. It may not be great but I don't think these two guys can make a bad movie together.

With Eastwood at the helm, this won't be a hatchet piece but since it says "based on a true story" this means that some creative license has been taken in it's making.

Meh, doesn't really peak my interest. I will probably pass unless it gets some glowing reviews by people I trust. (including ASFNers)

They've obviously got the angle on the blackmailing. Curious if they'll touch on his hidden African-American heritage, COINTELPRO, his war against birth control information. Could care less if they touch on his sexuality. Doubt GLBT claim him as their own, since he did everything he could to annihilate them.

None of the first three things, Matt, and plenty about his ever-repressed homosexuality. And drugs, too.

Saw it with my two movie pals. Oddly non-compelling, non-engaging flick. 3.5 stars.

At the end, our first comments were that the guy who plays Nixon for all of 2 minutes was really incredible.

DiCaprio does a decent job, but the whole way through I was thinking 'gee, they aged him so well.' At no point did I feel JEH's umbilical attachment to his mother, his apparent ability to inspire berzerk loyalty and fear, his sexual and emotional ambivalence to Clyde Tolson, his slyness, his rages or his bitterness.

I have no interest in Hoover in general but went to see the movie based on those involved. I left with pretty much the same opinion, thought it was pretty dull for the most part.

Dull.....

Loved the Armie Hammer performance.

Still trying to figure out how I stuck in and watched the whole movie.

Just caught this with my bride. I found it quite good with excellent performances by the entire cast. This is certainly not an action movie, but I wasn't expecting one (that helped). It was really a portrait of a very dark, sad and sick man.... someone who could have been a Hitler or Mussolini. He most certainly was a domestic terrorist and narcissist, all of which were clearly portrayed.

3.9 out of 5 stars (couldn't quite give it 4 stars)

I recently watched it. I'm in the camp that found it a little dull. Acting was great, but it seemed like they had opportunities to really slam on the gas pedal and dig deep into the man, but they never did. This is J. Edgar Hoover for crying out loud!
