A name that will forever be associated with Michigan basketball has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Jace Howard, the son of former Michigan coach and Fab Five member Juwan Howard, has decided to transfer after five years in Ann Arbor, an individual with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Free Press on condition on anonymity because it's not official.

Jace started his career playing for his dad in the 2020-21 season, Juwan's second year in Ann Arbor, and decided to stick it out with the Wolverines after his dad was fired following the 2023-24 campaign when the Wolverines went just 8-24.

Jace appeared in just five games for Michigan this past season and appeared in 70 games total, averaging 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds for his career.

Although he played in games over five seasons, Jace appears to be seeking a medical waiver for this past season and will try and play a sixth season elsewhere.

The Howard news comes as the Wolverines have been busy in the transfer portal, despite the season just ending on Friday.

On Monday, the Wolverines landed a commitment from North Carolina transfer Elliot Cadeau, the starting point guard for the Tar Heels this past year who has played in 74 career games with 68 starts.

Cadeua averaged 9.4 points and an impressive 6.2 assists last year for the Tar Heels.

In addition, Michigan has had several players who have decided to test the waters and put their names in the transfer portal over the last week.

Also on Monday, former Alabama transfer Sam Walters decided to put his name in the portal. The 6-foot-10, 200-pound forward played in 23 games during his season in Ann Arbor and averaged 5.0 points and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 36.6% from 3.

Last week, Justin Pippen, a freshman point guard and son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, decided to enter the transfer portal, a program source confirmed to the Free Press.

U-M will continue to be active in the portal as they likely still have to replace both halves of the Area-51 duo in Vladislav Godin (out of eligibility) and Danny Wolf (projected first-round pick), but Cadeau is a fantastic start for Dusty May and company.
