Robin Villeneuve and Logan Hughes hit two home runs apiece and Jack Cebert settled down a slugfest as the visiting Texas Tech baseball team beat Houston 13-8 Saturday night to take the first two games of a Big 12 series.
Texas Tech (5-11, 2-0 in the Big 12) led 11-2 after three innings. Houston (11-6, 0-2) countered with a six-run fourth, chasing Tech starting pitcher Tyler Boudreau. After Malachi Lott greeted reliever Jorden Espinoza with a two-run homer that narrowed the gap to 11-8, on came Cebert (1-2), who blanked the Cougars on two infield singles the rest of the way.
The two teams complete the series with a game at 1 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder Park.

More: Plans exist for a new-look Texas Tech baseball stadium, but will it happen?
Here are three key developments:
Texas Tech has won back-to-back games for the first time since April 19-21 last season, when the Red Raiders swept a home Big 12 series against West Virginia. The Mountaineers were tied for the Big 12 lead going into that week, so the sweep looked significant. Instead, another 33 games unfolded before the Red Raiders again won two in a row.
The senior righthander was dialed in, giving the Red Raiders a season-best 5⅔ scoreless innings of relief with no walks and eight strikeouts. He also served up seven groundouts and allowed only two balls out of the infield.
The transfer from South Florida was Tech's opening-day starter at North Carolina, but dropped out of the weekend rotation after two turns with his ERA at 10.80. On Saturday, he got 17 outs on 73 pitches and lowered his ERA to 4.80.
Four times in the previous five games, Tech had gotten at least five innings with two or fewer runs allowed from its starting pitchers. Though the Cougars raked Boudreau for seven earned runs in 3⅓ innings, Cebert added to the staff's recent uptick.
Damian Bravo, Villeneuve and Hughes, batting 2-3-4 in the order, had three hits apiece, and Villeneuve and Hughes provided six of Tech's 10 extra-base hits.
Villeneuve drove in five runs with a two-run homer, a two-run double and a solo homer. Hughes tripled in the first inning, smashed a two-run homer in the third and a solo shot in the ninth. The Red Raiders also got a two-run double from Tracer Lopez and two doubles from T.J. Pompey.
