Lomax to Green 84
Hall of Famer
I really liked what the Jacksonville Jags did the last two years when they went out and got both Marcus Stroud and John Henderson. I also found it interesting that Marcus Stroud struggled mightely his rookie year, but was greatly helped by having another young kid in there next to him (Henderson) in 2002. Rod Graves talks alot about building the "belly" of this football team and that can be interpreted a number of ways (depth, or possibly in the trenches). Wendell Bryant needs some help at the Defensive Tackle spot. We can continue to throw guys like Barron Tanner in there to clog up the middle, but it might not be a bad idea to draft a young kid (Roberston, Kennedy, even William Joseph) and put him beside Bryant and let them grow up together.
I am one who thinks William Joseph gets a bad rap. Don't be a bit suprised to see him be one heck of a good pro defensive tackle. He is more of a one gap type, but so if Bryant and they could make a really active combo. The Cards could probably trade down 4 or 5 slots and still grab Joseph. Lets not forget that in addition to the recievers coach of the Cards going to the Miami workout to watch Andre Johnson, the Cards also sent Joe Greene. Say what you want about Joe Greene as a coach, but the staff and management respects his opinion when it comes to drafting defensive linemen. Greene personally worked out Bryant last year and almost blew out his knee in the process, but he was the one who gave the thumbs up because there were concerns about Bryant's strength and Greene hushed those concerns with his assessment of Bryant based on the workout.
