Dan Parr of NFL.com recently listed out the top five needs for each team heading into the 2025 NFL draft. Do you agree with his picks and the order of those selections for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
At the top of Parr's needs list for the Jaguars was the defensive line at No. 1, followed by cornerback and safety.
The defensive line, as we all know, is certainly a top priority for the Jaguars entering the NFL draft. Earlier this offseason, GM James Gladstone mentioned that unit as one he wanted to prioritize, and after tackling other needs in free agency, the urgency to add to that room has only ramped up.
The good news is that this year's draft class at both the tackle and end positions is loaded with talent. The Jaguars have a strong foundation up front, as head coach Liam Coen acknowledged recently, but improved depth is needed at a position that is heavily rotated.
After the defensive line, I think one could make an argument that cornerback, safety, offensive line or wide receiver could be among the next position groups listed.
When it comes to the secondary, the additions of Jourdan Lewis and Eric Murray help provide needed stability, but competition and depth at both spots are still needed.
"I think the defensive backfield, as a whole, has gotten better with the addition of Jourdan and Eric. One of the things between the two of them is that their experience, their stability, it offers exactly what's needed on that back end," Gladstone said.
It shouldn't be assumed that Jarrian Jones will step into the starting boundary role seamlessly, and competing for playing time at the safety spot opposite of Murray would be the prudent move for the Jaguars, who had arguably the worst secondary in football last season.
Rounding out Parr's top five needs for the Jaguars was the offensive line at No. 4 and wide receiver at No. 5.
The Jaguars leaned heavily into the offensive line during free agency by making four additions. However, the contracts handed out don't preclude the Jaguars from further adding to this group.
The floor of that unit was raised but in terms of what the Jaguars have up front currently is still not known. And given the importance of this unit when it comes to the overall success of the offense, if there are still question marks, then an addition or two to fuel competition can still be made.
"I think we got some good sound, solid players that are going to help elevate that floor," Coen said. "But let's go wait and see what it truly looks like when we actually go and compete and do things the way that we're going to do them."
Lastly, at wide receiver, we find ourselves having a similar conversation here as we've had at many of the other position groups mentioned.
Perhaps the answer to the question: 'who will step up as the Jaguars' No. 2 target behind Brian Thomas Jr.' is already on the roster in one of Gabe Davis, Parker Washington, or Dyami Brown. But that's not a given either, which is going to open the door for an addition to be made.
