Terrific get for the Devils! Once Nick Johnson committed to UA I figured it was only a matter of time before Carson committed to ASU. Itll be fun watching these two highly rated local kids go at it against each other for 2 years or more.

Now I hope Sendek can get an athletic 4/5 (Norvel Pelle would be great), a combo guard type who can play some backup PG and a combo forward.

For UCLA fans it sucks, was hoping he'd pick UCLA since I don't think Turner will. My guess now is still Turner to Kansas but if not them, UA. UCLA needs to really hope Cook is interested in coming West.

Will be interesting to see if Sendek really opens the offense up for Carson the way the mother said they were told he would.

Nice to see kids staying home in conference though, much better for the pac 10 as a whole to keep kids.

.

I think we'll see Sendek open it up in phases. This year it'll be a bit more sense Brandon Dunson will be playing some PG and he's pretty darn athletic. Then a bit more Jahii's freshman more, and again more so Jahii's sophomore year.

Its clear Sendek has been targeting (and more importantly landing) more athletic guys than what he did when he initially got to ASU. And I think he's realized he'll have to go with a slightly more uptempo system to win recruiting battles in the West.

I am a little surprised he didn't end up at UW, I guess he wanted Miller to get a close look at him for the next 4 years. Looks like ASU rebounded nicely from losing Turner, now if only they can start recruiting true big men instead of all these wing players.

Carson says he's trying to recruite DeAndre Daniels to ASU now. I assume they have the ride since they would have taken Remi Barry.

Will be interesting now ASU, UCLA, UA and USC are all recruiting Daniels for 2010 and there are probably other Pac10 schools on him too.

True, but Herb continues to bring in better talent than any of his predecessors. It also sounds like a couple of those bigger wings can at least hold their own against bigger players. While the system in general doesn't really necessitate more than 1 really big player in the middle, it would be better to have a couple.

Yes, they have one scholarship available currently. Though adding another player to Herbs already huge 2010 class seems unlikely, but if its a player of Daniels' caliber of course you do it.

Where did you see that Carson is trying to recruit Daniels? Was that in a public article somewhere?

Anyhow, I think ASU is an extreme long shot for him,so Im not getting my hopes up.

Well if its true that he plans to run a more up-tempo offense like he promised Jahii then I guess true big men aren't really necessary. Herb has brought in some talent to Tempe over the years but when your being compared to Rob Evans and Bill Frieder you bound to be declared a winner in terms of recruiting.

It's well down in the article after he talks about Nick Johnson. He says his AAU program is close to Daniels and they're good friends.

I'm pretty surprised about the Daniels situation, the claim is Texas dropped him, but now suddenly he's got half the Pac 10 after him and Kentucky. I assume it's because he's 2010 and teams are thinking we have a ride he can play, I'm amazed UCLA is interested he had a pretty bad academic reputation at one point. His coach says he's fully eligible so that must have improved but it's still not a risk they usually take.

I assume Howland thinks we need more outside shooting this year and he can shoot it. USC was going to initially pass on him per their fans but after they saw his transcripts that changed.

Not true at all. His mentor is very good friends with ASU assistant Lamont Smith. ASU is very much in the mix and Sendek has proven that he can close with recruits like Daniels.

However, I'm not paying too much attention right now since he supposedly might go to prep school so he can get bigger/stronger. If so, he would be a 2011 recruit as opposed to '10.

Reports today say he's going to prep school, so he'll indeed be a 2011 recruit. That may be better for ASU since their 2010 class is huge and that may scare off some recruits. Ill continue to say ASU is a long shot to 1. not get my hopes up and 2. because he hasn't publicly listed or mention ASU anywhere that Ive seen...yet.

Too bad. He should have stayed home and studied. Sometimes student athletes do not get things in the right priority.

What does this mean? Is he just not able to play this year but can go to CC and get his grades up and be with the team next year??

Or is he done at ASU..

Ok, so he will be with the team, and will be able to earn the year back, so in essence this is like a redshirt year...

Not ideal, but I can live with that...

Perhaps he can help Herb recruit some in state talent and build a decent team while he is in college which could be from 2012 through 2016. Note that there are no seniors on the present team (I just checked their roster).

I understand PG Chris Colvin was suspended for today's game per Herb Sendek for "conduct unacceptable to any team." It could last longer. I guess we will find out if that walk-on PG can play.
