I'm surprised he signed but I'm glad he did. I really thought he was destined to follow Amare to New York.

Good contract. If he keeps improving his game and his body, this could be a bargain contract for the Suns. In that case I would see Dudley not taking that 5th year option.

Good news! I was really worried they would let Dudley walk. I am glad he will be a Sun for a long time, definitely one of my favorite players.

Dudley was signed for a relative bargain price. Warrick was signed as well to a similar contract. I also like the Childress signing although he will cost the Suns slightly more at 30M over five years. Anyway, these three are good signings for the money.

I could live with the Frye signing if the Suns had not spent a chunk of money in a similar player in Turkoglu.

Wow, I really thought he'd get more money than that so I'm glad we were able to keep him at a pretty good price. I thought he'd get somewhere close to what Posey got a couple years ago in NO (4 years, 25m).

Technically, that's not what happened. They just agreed to the extra money Hedo cost vs. Barbosa. Your point doesn't really change though. :D

Turkoglu will cost the Suns more money than if they had kept Barbosa. I just wish the Suns could have worked out a trade with Barbosa with another team that would have brought in a player to fill a need... a physical presence.

Yes... that's what I wrote.

I was just questioning your comment:

The Suns spent a chunk of money on Turkoglu even though part of it was originally slated to be spent on Barbosa. I think we're in total agreement unless we are splitting hairs. Both players were under contract when traded.

Someone tell me why we gave the lesser player (Frye) 50% more money..

Warrick, Dudley were good moves. Childress should be a good signing still.

Frye and Turkoglu were disasters however..

Right. The Suns were paying whatever the amount was for Barbosa and agreed to pay more on top of that--which is the difference in the two contracts.

Semantics. The only thing worse than the offseason is 5 days between regular season games. :D

Exactly. We need some action even if we have to create it. ;)

I can understand signing one or the other but signing both does not make sense. There must of been some options to move Barbosa elsewhere rather than Toronto. I've said before, this trade (Turkoglu) appears to have been promoted by Babby.

Given the start Barbosa is off to this season, I think it's a reasonable guess that the trade market for him was pretty soft.

1. At the start of summer a couple of other so-so bigs such as Drew Gooden and Darko (I think) had just signed contracts for similar money Frye ended up getting shortly before we signed him (slightly more actually). Dudley on the other hand is a SF and therefore is worth less (money wise) on the market.

2. We had just lost Amare at the time we signed Frye so I assume Sarver wasn't about to risk losing Frye as well by lowballing him.
