Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is a long way away from consideration for Cooperstown. But he’s already locked up one Hall of Fame spot.

On Saturday, the Worcester Red Sox announced that Duran would be part of the team’s second-ever Hall of Fame class. Duran was tabbed for induction alongside ballpark design advisor Janet Marie Smith and executive/broadcaster JP Ricciardi.

Duran is a budding star in Boston. The 28-year-old is coming off an All-Star season in which he hit .285 with an .834 OPS. Now in his fifth MLB season, Duran is known for his athleticism, having stolen 34 bases last year. In 2024, he led the league with 48 doubles and 14 triples.

Before he cracked the lineup in Boston, Duran was a key part of WooSox history. In 2021, he was the first player to make a plate appearance for the team after it moved from Pawtucket to Worcester.

Duran made his MLB debut later in 2021, though he eventually returned to Worcester for additional stints. He last played for the WooSox in 2023.

Smith, who currently works as an executive for the Dodgers, was instrumental in the design of Worcester’s Polar Park. Known for her role in bringing Camden Yards to Baltimore, is credited with helping make the park a reality.

Ricciardi, a Worcester native who now lives in West Boylston, was a longtime MLB executive. Since 2024, he’s served as the color commentator for WooSox broadcasts on NESN.

The WooSox Hall of Fame currently includes Larry Lucchino, Ed Augustus Jr. Rich Gedman.
