Parker started for the A's today. 7 walks in 3.2 innings. Got sent down after the game. Did NOT look good.

He has time - but I still think this was a good trade

Yeah, I was thinking this made the trade look better. I bought into the hype that Parker would be ready for the rotation this year. You have to look hard to see the potential in last year's performances in the minors. Not sure Tommy John did for his arm what it's commonly believed it does.

It doesn't necessarily remove him from the competition for their 5th spot. Could also be a money thing too. Keep him in the minors until June and you get an extra year of service.

Neither of which makes me think it would have been better to have kept him, if it's the case.

I'm not arguing that. I would have liked to have kept him. 2007 was the first year I truly started following the minor leagues and he was our pick that year so I have been excited to see him pitch but Cahill is the better pitcher right now, so we are in a better position now. All I am saying is the same thing I've said in many threads, it is spring training, stats don't mean anything. Him getting re-assigned to the minor league camp means nothing in terms of talent and potential for this season.

An A's fan explained to me that the way their schedule works out, they can go with a 4-man rotation the first two weeks and Parker could get a very early call up. I guess they won't need a 3rd starter until the 5th game of the season. They just wanted him to get some action instead of watching the veterans.
