This coming will be the first full week of events with golf coming into the fold. (Events covered April 1-April 7)

Girls Track

After a fourth-place finish at the event last year, Perry won its annual Jayette Relays on April 3, thanks to a number of gold medalists, led by Treasure Moore’s two wins tied for the most overall on the day.

Getting the best time of the day in the 100-meter dash, Moore clocked 12.88 seconds for a stride advantage over Woodward-Granger’s Hayden Thomas who made it to the state championships last year in Class 2A. Moore held an even greater advantage close in the 200-meter event at 26.95 seconds, already surpassing her best time last year by half a second. Her teammates Cate Erickson and Denise Rivera were under 30 seconds for third and fourth place to help climb the team leaderboard as a group.

Continuing to dominate the sprint circuit, in the 400-meter dash, Perry was led by Taryn Nehring at 1 minute 2 seconds for first prize. No runner even cracked 1:06 last season for the Jayettes.

And strengthening Perry’s potential to climb the rankings even deeper into the season, Lily Myers walked out with the 800-meter’s top time at 2:30 and placed second in a photo finish in the 3,000-meter run at 11:31.

Boys Soccer (1-2)

Looking to start the season on a winning streak with two games at Mediacom Stadium on Saturday, the Bluejays were sent back to Perry with two losses in hand to Des Moines North and Des Moines Hoover.

Losses of 5-0 and 6-0, respectively, were nearly identical to last year’s performance against the same duo and location. Those losses to North and Hoover last season were followed by one more loss before the Bluejays ripped off eight straight wins and built enough momentum to get into the state championship game.

After an opening loss to Des Moines Christian, the Jayettes got into the win column with a 4-0 win over Des Moines East on April 1.

Momentum has been slowed by the schedule, with a nine-day gap before their next match, squaring up with North Polk on Thursday at home.
