BOSTON -- BOSTON — Jayson Tatum is still dealing with a sore wrist, two days after taking a hard foul following a flagrant foul from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in Game 1 of the Celtics first round series against the Magic. The Celtics All-Star was down for nearly a minute after landing hard following a dunk attempt at the rim with 8:28 remaining in the fourth quarter of Boston’s 103-86 win.
Tatum ultimately stayed in the game and played his usual playoff minute load (40 minutes overall) but was seen flexing the wrist throughout the remainder of the game and while on the bench. He got an X-ray on the wrist postgame but said it came back “clean.”
The Celtics had an off day on Monday before returning to the practice floor on Tuesday ahead of Game 2 on Wednesday night.
“He was able to do some stuff,” Joe Mazzulla said. “He was sore after the game, he’s gotten a little bit better today. He was able to go through some on court work and we’ll go from there.”
Mazzulla would not reveal Tatum’s status for Game 2, simply stating he’s day-to-day when asked about his availability. Tatum has been one of the most durable members of the Celtics roster during his career, and has yet to sit out a playoff game due to injury.
Tatum will be looking for a bounce back performance in Game 2 after a subpar outing by his standards, posting 17 points, 14 rebounds and two assists while just 8-of-22 from the field and 0-of-4 from the free throw line.
“I think that’s what makes us so dangerous, that we just have a really well-balanced team,” Tatum said of others picking up the scoring load in Game 1. “And guys step up, and it can be different guys on any night. And everybody else just kind of figures out their part to make sure we win.”
