Jeff Blake is nothing more than an older version of Jake Plummer. He continues to make the same critical mistakes game after game. So far today he's fumbled and thrown two interceptions, and by all rights should have thrown three. He has done this in each and every game. He should be benched in favor of the McCown kid and see what he can do. If he stinks as well, at least we know we need two new QB's. Blake is awful and no amount of candy-coating will change that.

Aggravation has led me to respond to my owm post! But we've given them 12 points offensively! 12 points and we're going to wind up getting blown out because of turn-overs and Blake's poor play. AAAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

I'm sorry, but Jeff Blake does not equal Jake Plummer. Both QBs are good when they have pass protection and good run blocking to take some pressure off. I have yet to see a QB who can take a crappy performing o-line and get anything done in this league. Face it, it's not our QBs. Plummer and Beurelein look great in Denver don't they?

I think you're wrong Jon. Blake had all the time in the world on those interceptions. He made awful choices and tried to force balls in where he had no reasonable expectation of doing so. I'm not sold on Plummer no matter what he accomplishes in Denver. My point reminas the same. Blake is performing in exactly the same way Jake did which led to him being run out of town.

Did he have all the time in the world? I'm not watching the game today so I don't know, but are you sure he wasn't being pressured? Did you see all his receivers downfield and how open they were? I still like Blake and I think if we were executing on offense you'd see how good he can be. Also keep in mind that Baltimore has the best run defense in the league.

Now tell me SLan, how could he have thought the TE was open on that throw? McCown could not be worse. I've had my fill of Jeff Blake. This team is going nowhere. What sense does it make to play him any longer?

I'm up for McCown. Blake doesn't handle the pressure as well as I would like. I don't expect him to be great, but he doesn't seem to have the presence to make up for the ineptitude of the coaching staff.

before he's done here, his career TD/INT ratio will be in the neg. rather than pos..

I agree, Josh could do this, an atleast have the "lack of starts" excuse. As you said, atleast we'd know if we need one or both QB's replaced.

As for that TE throw. Maybe the coverage was in his blindspot? Riiiiiiiiight...

Ahhhh.. 8 points down, as always, they give me some futile hope.
Onside kick time, Darlings offsides, an Scobey's early. DOH!

I am for mccown..I was 100% for jeff blake because he was about the best available free agent...I still think he was the right guy to sign - as it was a terrible FA pool that was available..

we may as well play mccown and see what he has - so we know if we need to get in line for the eli manning sweepstakes or use it on another position. Personally..I think josh can be a very good nfl qb - he has the physical tools - whether he has the mental tools - we need to find out. At least with josh - you can get some mileage out of his running ability - no qb is nearly as fast as micael vicke - but mccown is probably one of the fastest qbs in the NFL after vick.. Mccown is also a tough guy and has a good arm - so give him a shot...

Yes. Blake is better.

But now by much! ANd has consistantly KILLED this team over and over and over again. Blake has taken this team out of 3 games by STUPID STUPID THROWS, and NOT PROTECTING THE FOOTBALL!!! A 12 year vet should know better by now!

Blake deserves a F- so far. He can throw for as many yards, and completions as he wants. But his INT, and fumbles are absolutely KILLING THIS TEAM!

At least had the "comeback" to fall back on. Blake makes the same mistakes w/o the ability to bring 'em back.

Frustrating, frustrating.

Blake had a BAD day. I think it's his first real bad game, because all of the INT's were forced. Still, when you look out there and see Nate Poole and Gilmore seperating from no one, you feel for the guy trying to make something happen. This WR corps is an embarassment except for Boldin.

Still, when it was 7-6, he needed to just throw the ball out of bounds and punt the damn thing. I know he didn't want to hear boos after yet another three and out, but jeez.

I hate to say it.

But Fumbles and INT's are Jeff Blake. I watched him through the majority of a season in Baltimore. The guy makes you swoon with his arm strength of some of the throws he makes. Then he turns around and breaks your heart with the INT's and Fumbles.

The guy is majorly inconsistent.

I have to say at this point we should go ahead and start Josh McCown for the rest of the season. As a 12 year vet, Blake should not be making so many mistakes, I just don't see a reason to start him anymore. I really think it's time to see if we should keep McCown or not. If not we at least know that we need to find a QB next year.

As far as comparing Jake and Blake, i'll take Jake anytime.

Exactly Snake. They have to realize they are going nowhere, and fast. All the young guys have got to play, just to see what they're made of.

man, blake just seems to being going downhill like a one of those cars flying off a cliff in a movie.

pretty soon hes going to hit bottom and then.... BOOM!

each game he has gotten progressively worse.

after the detroit game I thought we might have gotten a steal in Free agency. yeah, he threw a couple of picks in that game, but he looked better than plummer ever did.

now, I'm not so sure. I guess its just a matter of time before blake throws a behind-the-back pass.

The QB gets too much glory when it goes well, gets too much blame when it goes wrong. This runs much deeper than just the QB.

Excellent post. Although I agree Blake hasnt played well lately, he is not the SOLE reason why this team lost today or any other day. In fact an arguement could be made that w/o Blake the Cards wouldnt have been that close at all!

Blake looked like a guy who was always concerned with getting hit while he was dropping back to pass. He looked skitish back in the pocket. The INT for the TD was behind the receiver. Thrown in front of the receiver and at worst the DB knocks it down.

The real problem is this disaster they call an offensive line. Its offensive all right. You know your offensive line is bad when they spend half the time getting off the ground when the play is over because they have been driven back so far. A good offensive line spends a lot more time staying upright after a play because they are the ones driving the DL back.

But that takes a coaching change because in this exact situation last year, (and Jake was playing even worse), Mac stuck with Jake. THe only difference is McCown is a year more experienced.

If Mac stays it's very unlikely he'll bench Blake now. I think if he does in 2 weeks everyone will be calling for Parsons.

Who said it was "just" the QB? My point is playing a veteran who's making all the same mistakes, in the same numbers as Jake did, on a team going nowhere is an additional mstake. What will it prove if he continues to play and they win another game or two?

Actually, that is incorrect Russ.

From the Republic...
After six games last season, Plummer had six touchdown passes and five interceptions. The Cardinals were 4-2, but on the verge of a free fall. After six games this year, Blake has seven touchdown passes and nine interceptions, plus a pair of fumbles against Detroit and St. Louis that were backbreaking.
