Jefferson County’s baseball team came back from a 6-1 deficit to defeat Glascock County Panthers, 12-9. It was a victory 10 days in the making, with two rainouts and no officials showed up for the make up date.
“We are getting to the midpoint of this season and I know coming into the season we would be young but more than that we only had two returning players that had significant varsity experience. February was a time to adjust and get players where they could understand how fast the speed of varsity baseball is,” said Warriors baseball head coach Craig Brock said.
The Warriors struck first when shortstop Jayden Duncan reached base on a walk and stole second and scored the Warriors only run of the inning off a passed ball.
Panthers pitcher Easton Davis helped his own cause by lacing a single to right field. Junior Jaxon Hicks walked and Davis scored on Caden Downs fielder’s choice knotting the game, 1-1. Glascock County went up, 4-1 off of a two run single from right fielder Tristan Cooper and a ground out from left fielder Caden Swint plating one run.

Davis issued a pair of walks in the top of the second and Duncan collected a single but the Panthers shut down Jefferson with solid fielding. Downs doubled, scoring center fielder Blake Daniels who reached on an error and Davis who singled Increasing the Glascock lead to 6-1.
Glascock grabbed two quick outs but a series of hit batters, passed balls, and walks allowed Warriors catcher Georquel Murray and DH Jayden Wilson to make the game, 6-3. Right fielder Mason Tungate doubled home three more runs and would score off of pitcher Tre Davis’ single giving the Warriors, 8-6, their first lead of the game.
A single from Easton Davis set up an RBI double from Hicks and another run off a walk and error allowed the Panthers to retake the lead, 9-8.
It was deja vu for the Warriors in the top of the fifth when Tungate collected his second double, scoring Marcus Scott who had reached on a walk, tying the game, 9-9.
Duncan relieved Trey Davis in the top of the fifth striking out the first two Panthers he faced before giving up a single to Swint but was later tagged out at the plate for the third out.

Murray reached base for his third time getting hit by a pitch advancing on Wilson’s sacrifice and later scored on a passed ball giving the Warriors’ a 10-9 lead. Jefferson County shutdown the Panthers in order in the final two innings.
The Warriors added two final runs off a walk to Scott who scored one run off a passed ball and Duncan scored off a base hit from Camden Dukes.
Jefferson County sprayed out 12 runs off of five hits. Tungate led all hitters with two doubles and four RBI’s. In four innings of work Davis struck out three while giving up eight hits and nine runs, five earned. Duncan got the decision, giving up a single hit, no runs, striking out three, and only walking one.
“Now we are deep into the region and have two pitchers playing three region games a week. We have had to work on developing more pitchers also and it’s coming around. We just want to keep improving in some area of the game the rest of the season,” Brock said.
The Panthers pounded out nine hits for nine runs. Easton Davis and Mason Turner combined for five strikeouts, four hits, ten runs eight earned, and walked eight. Downs led the Panther hitters with a double and three RBI’s.
Jefferson currently is 4-8 with its sole region win coming against Northeast, 16-15 in nine innings.
Glascock is currently 7-5 with a six game winning streak in region play.
