Jerry DiPoto to be Angels GM

Arizona Diamondbacks executive Jerry DiPoto will be the next general manager of the Los Angeles Angels.

He will be introduced at a news conference at noon local time Saturday, because Major League Baseball discourages major announcements during the World Series. Game 7 is Friday night.

DiPoto has been senior vice president of scouting and player development for Arizona. He replaces Tony Reagins, who resigned in September.

MLB executive Kim Ng, Tampa Bay Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, New York Yankees executive Damon Oppenheimer and Texas Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine were among the names mentioned for the job.

He deserves it. I still can't imagine why the Cubs didn't go after him instead of overpaying some over-hyped kid out of Boston.

Don't worry if Theo & his guys don't get it done fast enough for Cub fans he'll be going there in 3 to 5 years!
