Hempstead, NY – The New York Jets announced today they have signed offensive tackle Anthony Clement. The announcement was made by Jets’ General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Clement, (6-8, 320) entering his 10th NFL season, first signed with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent on April 19, 2006. Originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 1998 (2nd round - 36th overall) out of Louisiana-Lafayette, Clement spent seven seasons with the Cardinals and then played 14 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. He has 92 career NFL starts.

I can't believe the '98 NFL draft was almost 10 years ago

I've noticed that when the Cardinals are in dire need of a position and go into the draft it's always a piss poor draft for that position. We needed tackles in '98 and they all pretty much sucked in that draft with a few exceptions

For what it's worth: Clement gave up 7.5 sacks in 16 games last season; Gandy gave up 12.5 in the same number.

Are you trying to deny the existence of a "Mike Gandy Derby (or sweepstakes if you prefer)"?

Remember, unless you've seen the caller ID of every GM in the league, you can't be sure we're the only team that has negotiated with Gandy.

Gandy is rated lower than Clement by Scouts.com...which is a big reason I don't really relish the idea of having Gandy and counting on him as depth.

Again -- mysteries of the NFL

Somehow the Jets, with Anthony Clement starting at right tackle, had a proficient offense and made the playoffs in a difficult division and even harder conference.

Forget continuity -- the same line started two rookies.

I can't believe that the Cardinals drafted Offensive Tackles in '98,99,and '01 and that all 3 will probably be starting in the NFL this season and the Cards are going into the 2007 draft with everyone saying they need to draft an offensive tackle in the first round.

LJ Shelton ? Maybe I would like to see him still here.

Leonard Davis is not a tackle.

Anthony Clement might be the worst offensive linemen I have ever seen. I don't care what a NYJ fan says, or Niners fan, or Broncos fan. I would rather have Frew Wakefield at OT.

Flozell Adams was picked two spots after Clement.

EDIT: Olliver Ross, our current starting OLT, was drafted 102 spots after Anthony Clement. Sleep well, Mr. Leinart.

And your point is?

Jason Fabini was drafted #118. He was a better player than Ross, Adams and Clement before he got injured 2 years ago.

Gandy played LT, Clement RT. Big difference!

Correction.

Clement played RT. Gandy played half the season at LT and the other half at LG.

Gandy gave up over 12 sacks playing half the season at guard. The guy sucks.

You guys really need to check out this "scout.com" site and their rankings for free agents. It has Step ranked as the 4th best Center and Leckey and Johnson rated 7th and 8th. Then check out the MLB, they have Huff ranked as 2nd best, and yes I know Huff is an OLB. Don't put too much weight into their rankings.

Yeah, I meant Scouts, Inc...ESPN.com uses them for their rankings. I never look at Scouts.com because of stupid things like that.
