Mar. 22—DICKINSON, N.D. — The University of Jamestown baseball put forth a dominant effort to get a 33-0 win over Valley City State University in their third game of the North Star Athletic Association Invite on Saturday, March 22, at Dickinson State University's Dakota Community Bank and Trust Ballpark.
The Jimmies' 33 runs are the most they've scored in a game in program history. The Jimmies offense was not the only one to make an impact as their pitchers also threw 8.2 no-hit innings before the bid was broken up by the Vikings' Christian Ramirez. On the mound, the Jimmies' Ryan Radkey picked a complete game giving up one hit, while striking out 10 and walking three hitters.
The Jimmies continued their trend of getting off to a hot start. Chase Burke led off the game with a solo shot to left to take a 1-0 lead. Two batters late, the Jimmies' Ryan Muizelaar hit another home run to push the lead out to 2-0. The Jimmies hit two more home runs in the inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Midway through the second inning, the Jimmies' Varen Sabino hit a two-run single to push the lead out to 8-0. The Jimmies kept it up from there adding seven more runs to take a 16-0 lead. In the frame, the Jimmies scored 10 runs on five hits and one error. The Jimmies 10 runs are the most they've scored in an inning since they scored 10 in the fifth inning against Park University on March 5.
The score stayed that way until the fourth when the Jimmies scored two more in the fourth and then three more in the fifth to take a 20-0 lead. The Jimmies were nowhere close to being done from there with Ben Patton hitting a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 22-0 before he came up with the score sitting at 28-0 in the seventh and runners on first and second and he deposited one over the wall in left to give his team a 33-0 lead. Patton finished the game going 4-for-5 with 8 RBIs, six runs and two walks.

The Jimmies offense continued to rake in the second game of the day on their way to a 19-4 win over Mayville State University in the final game of the NSAA Invite.
The Jimmies scored 52 runs in the two games combined.
"This was a great day. We pitched it really well and we also swung the bat at an extremely high level. It was great to see our guys rebound from yesterday," Jimmies head coach Tom Hager said. "We had a tough day at the plate but they came out with a great approach today and whether it be the starters or the guys coming off the bench, we just kept hitting and hitting and hitting. It was a great day."
The long ball kept flying for the Jimmies (19-7) as Alex Alva hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to give his team a 2-0 lead as part of a nine-run frame, off of 10 hits and four errors. The Jimmies' Patton continued his huge day with a sacrifice fly in the second to push the lead out to 10-0 before a Landon Runge single scored a run and pushed the lead out to 11-0.
The Comets managed to break through in the top of the third when Chris Shopbell hit a single to right to score a run and make it 11-1. The Jimmies responded with a three run fourth inning to make it 14-1 and then a five run fifth which included the Jimmies finding a new way to score for the first time in the two games, on a balk to make it 19-1.
The Comets kept fighting though and hit a three-run homer in the seventh to bring it closer at 19-4.
The lopsided wins meant the Jimmies only had to use three total pitchers in the 14 innings of baseball.
"By Ryan giving us a quality outing, it really allowed us to settle in at the plate," Hager said. "I think anytime you're starting pitcher is going the way he was, you're able to relax a little bit at the plate and not have as much pressure. We did rise to the occasion but we put a lot of balls in play and great things happen. So starting pitching not only helps defense but it helps the offense and we saw that today."
The Jimmies are back in action at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 28, when they take on Dakota State University.
