Mar. 15—UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team struggled with errors and it cost them in a three-set loss to No. 5-ranked Cornerstone University (Michigan) (18-25, 22-25, 17-25) on Saturday, March 15, at Governors State University's ARC Arena.
The Jimmies had 38 total errors in the loss. The Golden Eagles had 20 errors in their win.
The beginning of the first set was back and forth with the teams being tied at 11. The Golden Eagles' Ernest Broaster got a kill to push his team in front 12-11 and that kick started a run to push their lead out to 15-12. The Jimmies responded with a quick run to bring it closer at 15-14 before the Golden Eagles finished the set on a 10-4 run to get the 25-18 first set win.
The Golden Eagles (15-4) got out to a quick 6-3 lead in the second set before the Jimmies were able to bring it closer at 6-5. The Golden Eagles punched right back with a run to push their lead out to 16-10. However, the Jimmies were not done bringing it closer at 16-14. The Golden Eagles got a kill to make it 17-14 and they were able to make it to 18-15. The Jimmies would not lay down though and fought all the way back to tie the game up at 21 and then 22. The Golden Eagles finished the set with a quick 3-0 run to get the 25-22 second set win.
After the score was tied at six in the third set, the Golden Eagles took a commanding 18-10 lead and from there they pulled away to a 25-17 third set win.

The Jimmies finished their day with a straight sets loss to Governors State University (Illinois) (20-25, 15-25, 19-25).
The Jimmies (4-16) took an early 5-4 lead in the first set but a quick Jaguars run gave them a 6-5 lead and they were able to take that to a 17-13 lead. The Jimmies were able to bring it closer at 18-15 but the Jaguars were able to hang on and get the 25-20 first set win.
The Jaguars (19-6) flew out of the gates to a 10-5 lead and they were able to push it all the way out to 22-12 and sailed to a 25-14 second set win.
The Jimmies took another early 3-2 lead before the Jaguars took the lead at 4-3 but the Jimmies would once again battle their way back to a 7-7 tie. The Jaguars did their best to pull away taking an 8-7 lead and pushing it out to 14-11. The Jimmies were able to do their best to try to fight back into it trimming their deficit ot 14-13 and then 15-14. However, the Jaguars once again did enough to get a 25-19 third set win.
The Jimmies are back in action at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, when they face off against Park University.
