I've heard him compared to Tiki Barber..

I've heard him compared to Marshall Faulk.

I've heard him compared to Michael Bennett..

My question is, who does he most favorably compare to in your opinion? Explain why?

Fast Emmitt Smith.

Absolutely. Every time I saw him play (which was only against ASU and USC) and every highlight reel I see, he reminds COMPLETELY of a faster Emmitt.

That can be a good thing.

I do remember watching the Holiday Bowl and seeing him completely blow past a pair of T-Tech defensive ends/linebackers with ease, which kind of reminded me of Emmit in his Florida years.

The two key things that really worry me about his possible development are his occassional butter fingers and questions as to whether or not he can stand up to a beating while carrying the rock 25-30 times a game.

A fast Smith is how I saw him as well. Same size for the most part. I think he will add arm and chest strenght as soon as the trainers get with him. My very good friend Coach Mo had JJ here this past few months prior to the draft working with him on speed. Coach ahs a great rep for working with athlets in track and football and getting them to excell better than they had in school. Coach had I think 10 or 11 drafted guys in Arizona for work. 2 were picked in the first round. When I met JJ he was very impressive, Smart, and came off like a very nice guy.

I will be rooting hard for this good looking football running back to make it big in the pros. He has all the tools one would need to be very sucessfull. It would not surprise me at all to see JJ starting from the get go. If he can stay healthy anything is possable. As Yogi bear would say he is more than the average back.

I don't think

he'll be taking a 25-30 carry a game beating. The RB's in the stable will be used very wisely once the o line is set and given their identity.

At this point I can compare him to Rashaan Salaam and Blair Thomas just as much as any of the other RB listed.

The guy hasent done a thing at the NFL level yet so can we please not get carried away just yet by making comparisons at all?

That maybe so. But I can still make valid comparisons. Actually they would be more valid considering he has only ran at the college level.

Sorry people, the fun police have arrived.

No one get excited please. Nothing to see here. Everyone go into the drab grey room and stare at the wall paper.

Denny doesn't overuse his backs. In Minnesota when he had Robert Smith as the feature back, he also had Leroy Hoard for goal line and short yardage situations. He also threw in David Palmer for certain 3rd down situations. If J. J. Arrington becomes the feature back (he eventually should), I see him also using Shipp and Hambrick.

If I had to make a comparison, it would be Tiki Barber.

He isn't as shifty as Faulk or as fast as Bennett.

But the guy can bounce it to the outside and go for gold. Or run between the tackles picking up the 'hard yards'.

He isn't a great reciever like Faulk or for comparisons sake, Ronnie Brown. But a good one, just like Tiki.

Ditto, he's not as elusive as Faulk but he breaks tackles and can make one guy miss. He's more of a "phone booth" runner in that regard he makes very small moves in tight spaces that if they work, he makes you miss, if they don't, he puts his head down and goes forward. I can count on one hand the number of times he got strung out running wide or backwards trying to slip a tackle.

now a lot of guys do that in college and then in the NFL they find out everyone's faster and they get trapped all the time for losses, I don't see JJ picking up that bad habit since he wasn't a lateral runner at Cal.

Also, a la Emmitt, he seems to have that innate ability to avoid big hits. Due to running style, or spider sense, he doesn't take those major pops that someone like Shipp does.

That's the major issue I've had with Shipp...he leaves himself wide open for big shots, and takes a pounding. But if you look at Emmitt, and all the times he got hit in his career, it's hard to think of one that just decleated him. At the same time, he didn't shy away from contact either...he just knew how to take a hit and deflect it. JJ seems to have this as well, albeit I've only seen him in two games and highlight reels.

The big hit I always remember with Emmitt was Roy Williams breaking his shoulder but yeah for the most part he didn't get hit clean and hard.

Arrington is NOT as nimble footed as Emmitt, Smith seemed to always make the first guy miss and he was so good at finding yards where there didn't seem to be any at all, JJ isn't THAT good, but I think he's faster than Emmitt ever was he'll take runs Emmitt got 15 on and go 20+.

We had a good draft, now we should wait to make any comparisons, there could be arguments ranging from Barry Sanders to Leeland McElroy; we should wait until we see a few games at the pro level.

Comparison requires at least two.

Is there another JJ Arrinton we haven't heard of?

I would say Tikki

Like Barber, has had his case of fumblitis but he is like Barber but lacks Barbe's field vision (though his isn't bad). He is faster than Barber and if I'm not mistaken has close to the same size as Faulk coming out of college. Can he take a beating? They said Stump Mitchell couldn't but he proved them wrong and I don't see why Arrington can't. Shipp, Arrington, Hambrick and Scobey..not bad.

I agree 100% JJ Arrington has a running style that translates well to the NFL. He gets the yards the defense allowes and does not get negative yards with dancing around.
