Stokes is scheduled to earn base salaries of $2.25 million in 2003 and $5 million in 2004 under his existing contract....Stokes, 30, started eight of 13 games last season and had 32 catches for 332 yards and one touchdown.

This is why I don't get overly excited about taking a WR in the draft, we will be able to pick up decent production through FA between now and the start of the season. It seems to me that WR in the first round of the draft are a 50-50 at best.

I say

bring him in and take a look. It can't hurt. With all the "change of scenery" theory that's been thrown around here, that may be all he needs.

After all, it is guaranteed to work for Jake, right?

No guarantee

anywhere. I just don't see what harm it could do to take a look. He's not a bad receiver. He just hasn't lived up to his hype yet. Maybe under the right tutelage he would.

Stokes hasn't really done crap in 6 or 7 years for the 9ers. He's not even really a kid anymore, I think he's peaked.

There's always a chance he could move on and be a superstar but he's played like a journeyman backup thus far.

Rather have Stokes than Streets

Stokes did have one problem in Niner land, Garcia suffered from "Where is Owens, I will only throw to Owens" T. O. syndrome. By all means, bring in JJ for a look. Garcia would throw to his backs it seemed before he would look Stoke's way. Stokes has good height and some speed and unlike Streets, Stokes really is a veteran WR.

GO TROOPS!!!, go cardinals!

It wouldn't hurt to consider bringing him in...only if Graves & Co. decide to make a bone-headed contract offer like the one their offering to Holliday!:D

Bring JJ in! Give him a good look over. The Raiders seem to always find an aging veteran that turns in outstanding performances. Maybe the Cardinals are becoming a little like the Raiders. Give us your unwanted and we'll put 'em on the field......Maybe even win a game or two.

Does anyone else here wonder why no one metions Freddie Jones in the receiving corps? We payed him a nice fat contract, we need him to produce. With Jake gone, maybe Blake will look more towards Jone's way?

I'd be all for JJ Stokes coming here. You never know he may flourish as a #1 WR and while I don't know his personality maybe he could provide some of the "veteran leadership" we expect out of all these other veterans that are being signed.

Plus being able to play the Niners twice a year may be all the incentive he needs to want to come here.

He's better than any WR we currently have on the roster and I'd feel a lot more comfortable about him being signed than us drafting Andre Johnson.
