Welcome to Amareca
Not Jake Voshkul.
Johnson played 47 minutes to extend his streak of games with 40-plus minutes to 31. That streak is the longest since Boston's John Havlicek recorded 31 straight from Jan. 23-March 19, 1971.
"Even though we are losing, I am just out here to have fun and improve my game," Johnson said.
Only nine players in the history of the NBA, including Johnson, have a streak of 30 or more games playing 40 minutes or more and seven are in the Hall of Fame: Nate Archibald, Wilt Chamberlain, Havlicek, Neil Johnston, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell and Nate Thurmond.
Anthony Mason had a string of 30 40+ minutes games in 96/97 so he is the other guy who did it.
I'm going to ride this thing until the wheels fall off," Johnson said.
Johnson has averaged 20.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists since Marbury and Penny Hardaway were traded to New York in January. ~ Stats at the beginning of april
"When I used to look at Steph, he was playing 43, 45, 48 minutes a night," he said. "I used to tell him all the time, 'I don't think I could do it.' I think it's more of a mental thing. If you don't worry about it, it's not going to give you any problems. . . . If you have a strong mind, you can go a long way."
All that and Johnson does not even ice down after games.
Only Johnson's double-figure scoring streak is longer. It's at 40 straight games, the longest of his career.
I think Joe Johnson can be the next AC Green or Michael Finley in terms of straight games played and endurance.
He played 82 games last season, he is on track to play 82 games this season as well as averaging over 40mpg.
His last 31 games in terms of minutes played.
47 , (42, 44), 43, (48, 46), (43, 45), (44, 45), (42, 49), (46, 47), 42, 40, 40, 40, 45, 42, 41, 43, 42, (42, 46), (46, 45), 45, 44, (45, 43).
() are back to back games! That's sick. That's an average of 44mpg over those 31 games.
And with the exception of a 35 minutes game against Indiana he had another 5 straight 40+ before that as well.
