NBA Comparison: John Stockton

Strengths: A fierce competitor with great natural point guard skills. An intelligent, true point guard who gets his teammates involved before looking to score. A floor general type who leads the troops into battle and takes each loss as hard as anyone. Handles the ball effortlessly. Passes the ball superbly. Outside shot is very good. Always seems to know where to go with the ball. Has the basketball IQ and desire to handle the pro point guard position. Very quick and a quick decision maker. Has the guts to be very good.

Weaknesses: Not a super run jump athlete. Wont be among the most athletic points on the next level. However, explosiveness and athleticism aren't required to become the All-time steals and assists leader in NBA history, ask John Stockton how many times he's dunked a ball in an NBA game.

----------------------------------------------------
Joe, I think he will be fine as an NBA point guard.
Only time will tell if he ever makes it as an all star.

Beside, if the suns draft him, he will only be a back up for
many years here.

P.S. I do not think the suns will draft him...........!
They are going big at 17.

If the Phoenix Suns' top choice big man (Zarko?) is gone and Luke Ridnour is still around I think the Phoenix Suns will take him. I think he will be fine on offense. I know it's common for people to compare white players to other white players, but his offense does remind me of Steve Nash's. The problem is his defense also reminds me of Nash's... in fact it's probably much worse. NBA point guards are going to blow right by him work easily back him down.

Imagine Luke Ridnour and Casey Jacobsen on the court at the same time.

Jake Voshkul
Tom Gugliotta
Dan Langhi
Casey Jacobsen
Luke Ridnour

Worst lineup ever.

Um, Langhi's gone.

And yet, the race card rears it's ugly head again.

how could you look at that lineup and not see that immediately?!? it's a novelty.

and, i'm not saying they'd suck because they're white, i'm saying they'd suck 'cuz - LOOK AT THAT LINEUP!!!

don't make this into a racist thing, my comments were not meant in that manner. white men can jump (just not any of the ones on our current roster).

Forget the race card.

If we drafted Ridnour and our roster stays the way our 2nd unit would be mostly white, soft, slow and probably the worst 3 defenders in the NBA. That has nothing to do with race it is just the truth.

Who says Langhi is gone for sure? I didn't read anywhere that they rule out to sign him for another minimum contract.

Um, Dan Langhi wasn't as bad as many of you guys try to make him out to be. He was a decent rebounder at his size and had nights when he really could stroke the ball. Sure, he had nights when he wasn't hitting shots as well, but in 5 minute blocks of time, it's hard to shoot yourself out of a shaky shooting night. He's much better than Casey Jacobsen - he is taller, a better shooter, and a better rebounder. Sure, CJ was just a rookie, but Dan Langhi didn't have much more than a year under his belt either.

I agree IMO Dan did ok for the time he played. Not sure if he fits in with are team but will do better if he plays more minutes. What can you ask for from the worst rated player in NBA 2k3 and NBA Live go figure.

I do agree that Dan Langhi was much better than Casey Jacobsen last season. I didn't have a problem with him as one of the last guys off the bench and could provide a few minutes per game.

I thought Langhi would have been ok with more playing time.
He is a 3rd year pro like little Jake. If he had the same minutes I believe you would have seen a lot of improvement.

Now if they draft big he will probably not be back.
However, if they draft Joe's favorite to be drafted, "Luke Ridnour" then they might bring him back. :) :) :)

He was a decent rebounder at his size

I don't understand this comment. He was a decent rebounder considering he was 6' 11"? So, if he was 6' 7" or something, we'd expect him to be a real rebounder, but since he was 6' 11", it's okay that he couldn't rebound for crap?

and had nights when he really could stroke the ball

Which nights were those? Except for the meaningless last two games of the season, Langhi had only five games all year in which he made more than three field goals. Jacobsen had seven -- all before the All-Star break.

He's much better than Casey Jacobsen - he is taller, a better shooter, and a better rebounder

"Taller" is not "better" by itself. Extra height is useless if you don't do anything with it.

They were both poor shooters. Langhi's percentage was slightly higher, but Jacobsen shot more threes. You'd have to analyze it pretty carefully to declare one better than the other.

Langhi had more rebounds, but Jacobsen had more assists. Neither of them contributed much in either of those categories.

I don't think either of them was any good, but Jacobsen has some rookie excuses. For example, Jacobsen was quite a bit better in the first half of the season, which is fairly common for rookies.

I wouldn't campaign for bringing Jacobsen back either, but the Suns don't have any choice there -- they're stuck with him.

They have a choice with Langhi. Get him out of here.

I just saw Bryan Colangelo on Fox sports report. He said the exact same things Van Arsdale said last night. Zarko, cook, Collison (if he drops), and Lampe (if he drops big-time) are the big men they want. He said if Ridnour drops to #17 there's a good chance they will take him.

But it was clear that their top priority is a big man to spread the floor. I think it should be their priority in the draft.

Was Bryan just telling "us" what we want to hear? I thought one of those guys would be a pick of ours, untill I heard Bryan talk about it...Now I'd guess that someone else is the player that we want...

This is what scares me about Ridnour.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/128120_locke25.html

At this point, many teams are looking only at players' warts instead of the skills that got them to this point.

Ridnour is the perfect example.

One NBA talent evaluator told me this about the Oregon point guard from Blaine: "His defense is the worst I have seen. If we were to draft him, I would call his coach first and ask him if he told him to make no defensive effort to stay out of foul trouble, or if he is really as bad as I saw."
