I apologize upfront if you have already covered this but I have read about it so many times I don't know what is true and what isn't.

Could you clarify Leinarts contract by explaining exactly what he is due next year and what, if anything, the Cards could do if indeed he is scheduled to receive 14 m bonus next year?

I'm not Joe, but i'll give a go.

My understanding is that Leinart gets that bonus next year due to games played his rookie and/or sophomore year. What the Cards can and will do is redo the contract and turn that money into signing bonus (they'll probably have to add 4 or 5 mil to that) and then extend him another 4 years or so. Of course if we sign Warner to a 2 year deal, Leinart could refuse to sign the new contract and force our hand to either pay him the 15 mil (not likely) or be cut, in essense hoping to land somewhere else as a starter.

But again, i'm not Joe. I'm sure he has a little more in depth analysis.

Just to add any team we trade him to, that bonus will follow him to the next team. Making it harder to trade him if we picked that path to take.

Holy cow. To me that means there are probably not going to be too many teams interested in trading for Leinart. I guess Leinart isn't going to be too upset if Warner signs a new contarct or not. He is looking at a big payday somewhere down the line whether he plays a single down or not.
