When Joey Gallo made his MLB debut with the Rangers in 2015, he was seen as one of the best pure power-hitting prospects in baseball. And over the ensuing 10 years, he showed plenty of flashes of that power.

He just also happened to be among baseball's worst hitters when it came to strikeout rate, whiff rate and average. This spring, Gallo had signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox after the Nationals declined his option. But his spring couldn't have gone much worse with the White Sox — so bad that Gallo is now giving up on the outfield entirely.

On Sunday, the White Sox released Gallo, who went 2 for 20 in Cactus League action with 11 strikeouts. Gallo took to Twitter/X after that release to say that he plans to become a pitcher in hopes of saving his pro baseball career.

Just to be clear, I will be pitching.

Gallo was a star pitcher in high school and had a fastball clocked in the mid-90s at the time. But at 31, it will certainly be difficult to start over as a pitcher.

We'll have to see if any team takes a chance on Gallo as a pitcher because his days as an outfielder look to be over.
