Colorado football coach Deion Sanders wants to play a spring game against another team. Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire knows just the team — and the place.
McGuire tagged Sanders on social media Friday afternoon and told him, "(L)et's work on a waiver for a spring practice together and do it in Dallas at The Star! We are in!"
NCAA rules currently don't allow FBS teams to face each other during spring practice or in exhibition spring games, but Sanders said during a news conference on Monday he'd like to see college teams go to more of an NFL model during the off-season. In addition to their preseason schedules, NFL teams are able to conduct joint practices with each other.
Fran Brown was actually first to reach out publicly to Sanders' suggestion. The Syracuse coach said on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter, that "(W)e will come to Boulder for 3 days."

Don't hold your breath on NCAA legislation moving quickly enough to enable opposing teams to meet in spring games this year. Even if it did, it appears Syracuse and Brown are further down the road to doing something with Colorado and Sanders than anyone else.
Citing an NFL Network interview of Sanders, Syracuse.com reported Thursday that Sanders said, "Let me give much love and much respect to my dear friend and my brother Fran Brown at Syracuse. I love him to life. I pray that he’s the guy that’s going to make that jump. His university, we’ve already communicated. Fran, I love you, I appreciate you and I’m praying it’s going to happen."
Sanders' wish to go against other teams in the spring bucks a recent trend of other programs shying away from traditional intrasquad spring games or even canceling them altogether. Among those coaches, the fear is public spring games make their teams vulnerable to having players lured away via the NCAA transfer portal.
"I would like to style it like the pros," Sanders said during his Monday media session. "I'd like to go against someone (in practice) for a few days, and then you have the spring game. I think the public would be satisfied with that tremendously. I think it's a tremendous idea."
