Porter made three Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl while a member of the Steelers and was named to their all-time team. He added another Pro Bowl berth during his three years with the Dolphins before knee injuries sapped him of his skills over the last two years with Arizona. Porter was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2000s and finishes with 98 career sacks, good for 30th on the all-time list.

Beggers can't be choosers. The Cardinals have no one to blame but themselves for not having any pass rushers. At what point after Berry and Okeafor lined up for this team, did we not understand the situation at OLB was critical ?

I liked LaBoy. He was like Rudy. One of the most high effort guys ive seen. Later on he went to the 9ers and was tearing it up till I think he got hurt. Dude could be great if someone used him right, and put him in the right situation. Hes a less nautrally talented Matthews but makes up for it in sheer effort.

He wasnt released after 4 games he finished the season and was facing surgery and being out a whole year. Plus they needed to clear space for FA's- From PFW-

The defensive end, who played four seasons for the Tennessee Titans, signed a five-year, $22 million contract, with about $7.5 million guaranteed, with Arizona before the 2008 season. The Arizona Republic reports today that former Cards DE/OLB Travis LaBoy could miss the entire 09 season after having surgery. Here’s the report:
Former Cardinals defensive end/outside linebacker Travis LaBoy is scheduled to undergo surgery on an ankle later this month, casting doubt on his ability to play in 2009. LaBoy’s agents confirmed the plan for surgery, and the ankle injury appears to be the major reason the Cardinals released LaBoy two weeks ago. LaBoy played through a series of injuries last year, including a torn biceps muscle, which required surgery at the end of the season

On March 3, 2008, the Arizona Cardinals signed LaBoy to a five-year $22 million contract with $7.5 million guaranteed. LaBoy got off to a hot start with four sacks in the first four games in 2008 but a biceps injury slowed him the rest of the season. After the glimpse we saw last year from Acho and Schofield, I think he did his job pretty well. Today comes a move that many expected after the San Diego Chargers used their first round draft pick on OLB Melvin Ingram, as the team released OLB Travis LaBoy.
LaBoy came from the San Francisco 49ers last year along with Takeo Spikes to help Greg Manusky implement his defense. While Spikes played well, Manusky's defense was bad enough to get him fired after one season and LaBoy's performance was poor enough to get him released after one year.
In his defense, Travis was signed on to split time with OLB Larry English and was forced into a starter's role after English and Shaun Phillips went down with injuries. LaBoy led the OLB group in snaps played last year, but will probably have a hard time finding a starting job elsewhere in the NFL.

In 14 games, all starts, LaBoy had 38 tackles, but just one sack while playing in 63 percent of the team's defensive snaps.

This team would not be where it is right now if Ray Horton was not around to instruct our young players. The Cards had just drafted Daryl Washington and OBrien a month earlier. But our other LBs were Gerald Hayes, Paris Lenon, and Clark Haggans so why would the Cards need to sign a veteran Linebacker to instruct the young guys when they already had 3? Doesn't add up. Wasn't Will Davis the primary backup OLB as Schofield was rehabbing his knee the first 7 weeks? Davis didn't even make the team in 2011 so obviously veteran instruction didn't help him any.

The Cards signed Porter because Berry retired and Okeafor was done and they had no one to play OLB across from Haggans and Porter was a former Steeler.

Or maybe they signed Porter to help all those old players with their retirement portfolios.
