Crazy or what? What kind of odds on this?

It would have been more than enough for the polarizing Denver Broncos quarterback to simply lead his underdog team to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in the AFC wild-card game. And Tim Tebow did, thanks to his 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime that left the Steelers and the watching world simply stunned.

But then the facts and figures emerged, and the Internet verily exploded: Tebow threw for exactly 316 yards in the 29-23 upset win, presenting an eerie allusion to the Bible’s John 3: 16 passage — whose number Tebow famously wore in the black under his eyes when he led the Florida Gators to victory in the 2009 collegiate national championship game. What’s more, that event took place exactly three years ago on the same day as his latest miracle comeback. And that wasn’t it for the coincidences: Tebow set an NFL playoff record with, you guessed it, 31.6 yards per completion and the TV rating on CBS peaked between 8.00-8.15pm ET with a rating of, say it ain’t so, 31.6.

Did you see the Saturday Night Live skit where the guy playing Jesus made a reference to Tebow throwing for 3 out of 16 in the first half. But I don't know if this was a real statistic or not.

So Jesus wants Tebow to be completing less than half his passes? :p

so...the omen is that...God is planning to sacrifice his favored son(Tebow) to appease the sins of the NFL??

That is touching, I always knew God loved football...which is why sunday church is such a waste of time...he aint even paying attention.

Hey, John...

I've been around too long (54+ years now) and witnessed too much to believe in coincidence. THANKS for sharing! Mark in SC :D

And his yards per attempt were 15.047 ! Um, what does that signify?
And wouldn't it be more of a miracle if he went 21/21 or even better 21/20? Now that would be something to go crazy about.

Awesome I hadn't heard that yet about DT's birthday.

Man I love me some Tebow and hate me some Steelers. Great win.

Say what you want about him as a QB, but he is a good human being. Better to have your kids look up to Tebow than like Sam Hurd or something... :)

I'm so happy sports fans and the media can use statistics and players to trivialize such an important religion to millions of people. It's disgusting as is Tebow's Holier-Than-Thou attitude. It's a number nothing more, nothing less. I bet 90% of the people excited about this stat don't even know what John 3:16 says. Face it, Tebow is the Creed of the NFL.

Not when he beats the Steelers in the playoffs. Very easy to overlook everything else.

Creed blows, no matter what their religion was.

lol, the thing is, I've never seen Tebow say anything about being better than anybody. I've never seen him blame somebody else in a loss. Religion aside (as hard as it seems to be for everybody else to do), the guy seems to be a genuinely good person and busts his ass on the field every week. An athlete that kids can actually look up to? God forbid

I kid, I kid.

All joking aside, I completely agree with everything you said in the post. In a world full of gang bangers, womanizers, murderers and thugs, Tim Tebow is someone I can show to my 9 year old daughter and say "THAT'S a role model."

He's a model citizen, a great teammate and someone that as you said plays his butt off each and every play. Guy makes the most of his short comings and has overcome tremendous odds even in his brief NFL career.

Where is his Holier-Than-Thou attitude? I'm not sure why he's catching so much flak for something that is out of his control (media attention). And many of the sports-show idiots who talk incessantly about this guy are the first to rip him to pieces the moment his team loses.

As for your bet, (IMO) not only would you lose it but I think you'd lose it big time. I'd wager that perhaps as many as half of the people in this country are familiar with John 3:16. Honestly, I'd be surprised if more than 10% of the Atheists in this country weren't familiar with this quote. I haven't seen a Bible in more than 35 years and even I can recite the KJ version of this verse.

but yeah, I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd love for them to want a Tebow jersey for Christmas. In a world full of celebrities that cheat on and beat their wives, party 24/7, sell drugs, fight dogs, etc. the guy that has a squeaky clean image is getting **** on by more people than all of them combined

Best quote of the day for me was when they replayed the Tebow-Brady exchange after their last meeting--when Denver was not assured a playoff birth--when Brady said, "See you in the playoffs," and when they asked Tebow about it today he said, "I guess Tom's a prophet." Great stuff.

And pretty sharp/humorous stuff coming from Tebow off the cuff.

(That being said, Brady is going to annihilate Tebow this weekend)

lol, not to say Denver will win, because I doubt they will. But I thought the same thing last week. I dunno who deserves the credit. Whether it's Tebow, the defense, or God. But this young rag-tag team just beat the champs from 3 years ago. I would love to see Denver make the Superbowl, but to be honest, I thought they were the worst team to make the playoffs. But they put one hell of a notch under their belt with the Steelers

They're not to be underestimated. Pats have something like a 14 point spread to win, but it'll never happen in my opinion. Pats have the 2nd worst defense in the league, behind the Packers. If Denver can some how-some way run the ball and keep Tom Terrific off the field, they have a chance. I wouldn't underestimate them. I don't--really don't--want to hear any Tebow-mania for another week in a row, not sure I can stand it, but it's possible. Pats defense is so atrocious I wouldn't put anything out of the realm of possibility. It's not so much about Tebow...they have a strong running game and a really really good defense. Really good.

lol, I don't follow much news. I check box scores, etc. but don't care much for a lot of commentary. Especially regarding Tebow, whether positive or negative. Just watch the guy play and leave it there
