I would take Abraham in a heartbeat. It's obvious this team is in "win now" mode. Adding a proven pass rusher, no matter how old, should certainly be part of that plan.

Huge fan. He is a local kid who I followed since he was in HS. I am a Wisconsin fan so that worked out well. I am a Pats fan and followed Oakland for the past few years as well as AZ(since OB Schofield was with the Cards). I know the family pretty well. I was surprised he signed in AZ since you already had 2 pretty good DE's in Campbell and Dockett. I didn't see the fit but it looks like you will use him at OLB as well as a DE in the nickel. I think he might surprise people if he can play at the level he did in Oakland in 2010. Playing with Oakland in 2010, Richard Seymour said he was the best DE against the run in the NFL. It looks like AZ will want him to rush the passer more, so hopefully he comes in under the 285-290 he weighed at the end of last year. I am biased, but I think he might be one of the top FA signings of this past year. Sorry for hijacking a John Abraham thread. I like Abraham but think if the Cards are looking for a pure pass rusher, Mark Anderson, recently cut by the Bills, might be a better option. A couple years ago in NE, Anderson had 10 sacks. He isn't great against the run, but he can certainly get after the passer. He would come cheaper than Abraham and if his knee is healthy, I think he might have more left in the tank being much younger. When Abraham visited New England early in Free Agency, the rumors said he was looking for $5-6M/year. I am sure that is no longer the case, but for a pass rusher, I think Anderson could be a better value on a 1yr/make good contract like he had in NE. I hope the Pats kick the tires on Anderson. Just my opinion. Anyways, it looks like the Cards will have a new bunch of fans in CT, MA, NH, VT.

Don't be a stranger on here Steve.

The only Big 10 fans allowed here are OSU fans :D.

Welcome aboard. I don't know much about your new coach but wasn't a Bielema fan. Of course I couldn't stand Tressel either.

Anyone else think we'll see more 4-3 looks this year?

I think we will see a lot more 4-3 especially in passing situations. It may also be the reason why they are not too concerned with the lack of OLBs.

Well the good news is that BASK are looking to improve the roster. I know that's their basic job but the Cards have never been this active in FA IMO.

With the signing of Winston and the pursuit of Abraham BASK are targeting the trenches and 2 of the 4 biggest units that most of us fans have concerns about. TE and Safety being the other two.

I wouldn't be upset if Rucker is the odd man out if we do sign Abraham.

Cardinal Curse (Memories of Reino)...

This could be nothing more than Abraham fielding an offer from us in order to use it as leverage elsewhere. That said -My gut says he's the best pass rushing option out there.

And, while we're at it, I'll have a dozen Jumbo steamed crabs and a six-pack of Saratoga Black & Tan (if they still make it).

I would... considering Tally is still on the roster.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 8m DE John Abraham is still in Arizona on his FA visit. They are giving him the hard-sell… and Bruce Arians can be persuasive. Stay tuned…

Bruce is getting a nice reputation.

Thanks for the welcome.

Being a Wisconsin fan, I never liked OSU, but now that Urban Meyer is there, I will have to rethink that. I think Meyer is a hell of a coach.

I agree with you in regards to Bielema. I really liked Barry Alvarez but was very disappointed that he chose Bielema as his replacement. It should have been John Palermo, IMO. I think Palermo will help Pitt. To top it off, I like Arkansas so having Bielema there hurts. I don't know anything about Wisconsin's new head coach, so I will just hope for the best. I am glad Bielema is gone. I can understand your feelings about Tressel, but I thought he was a pretty good coach.
It looks like the Cards have quite a few Big Ten players including Shaughnessy and Schofield from Wisconsin so it will be good to see players I have watched for years.
