Last weekend, Cardinals strength and conditioning coordinator John Lott was back at the Scouting Combine, encouraging players to lift 225 pounds as many times as they can.

This weekend, Lott’s tenure with the Cardinals has ended.

Per multiple league sources, Lott was let go on Friday, after seven years with the team. Lott was one of a small handful of staff members Bruce Arians retained after getting the head-coaching job in 2013.

i forgot to come post on here about how I saw him at the combine this year. Sucks to see, he was part of the culture changed, the new weight room and the huge buyin players have had over the years instead of working out on their own away from the facility.

Good luck Mr Lott!

Don't understand what other direction they could go in. He's done a good enough job. Why mess with it?

From the article: According to one source, it was simply a matter of a desire to go in a different direction and with a different philosophy.

I've mentioned this before but I have spoke with a couple of former Cardinals players who were not high on Lott. So this news isn't that shocking for me as I expected it to happen when the front office was blown up last year.

We had a lot of muscle related injuries last season. One had to think that played a part in this.

Arians/Lott not on same page. Arians had different ideas -- not stretching, etc. Lott was Whiz's guy.

Just speculation but I bet Lott really wants to be in Tennessee and he and the Cardinals parted amicably. If you saw the recent azcardinals.com interview with Michael Bidwill, he said a few times how they know some members of the staff are going to leave via promotions elsewhere etc., and that it was their goal to keep building a staff where quality replaces quality.

In other words, there are "Door Number 2" and "Door Number 3" options for the staff as well.

Man, this Let's Make a Deal metaphor is getting good play in Arizona.

Funny---this hasn't been mentioned yet, but the options on Let's Make a Deal were Door Number 1, Door Number 2, Door Number 3 and what Jay is bringing down in THE BOX!

I think we are going to have at least a couple in the "BOX" surprises this off-season, as in choices none of us could ever have seen coming.

John Lott did some good work in Arizona and at the Combine and he deserves some recognition, imho, for helping the players achieve new heights. But, he's one of the last links to the old staff---and it's always nice for the new staff to get all their own people in place.

OK no idea how I missed this but I didn't realize the assistant strength and conditioning coach was Pete Alosi of the famed NY Jets Tripping incident.

For the record, BA isn't against stretching---he just feels the players should do it on their own before practice, so that they can hit the ground running at the first whistle.

So what happens next? Kind of a late moment to replace a key staff member, especially in the process of rehabilitation for some of our guys.

I'm drawing a blank here, and shouldn't, but is the Strength and Conditioning coach involved in physicals at all, or is that just team doctors?

I liked him at the combine but I always thought he was overrated on here. He'll be easily replaced and a new, fresh philosphy will probably be a good thing.

Bummer, I really liked John Lott. He obviously had the respect of some in the NFL as he has been involved at the combine for years. I thought his idea of running the new draftees up Camelback Mountain was genius. That is a physically demanding hike and a great way to get to see all of Phoenix for the newcomers.
