Warner Bros. Saddling Up Jonah Hex
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
July 24, 2007

Warner Bros. Pictures is saddling up to bring DC Comics' Western anti-hero comic book Jonah Hex to the big screen, with filmmakers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor on board to adapt, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood.

"Hex" first appeared in the early 1970s in the issues of "All-Star Western" before graduating to his own series in 1977 that ran for about 10 years. A new series was launched in 2005. The character also had a run in the 1990s that combined the Western genre with supernatural elements.

The filmmakers are not making a straight-ahead Western but plan to develop the character with some of the supernatural overtones in the hopes of creating a franchise.

Neveldine and Taylor wrote and directed Crank, which starred Jason Statham.

Cool...I have the complete, original comic book series...Will be interesting to see them pull this off on film.

Wonder who'll be cast...?

Plot details: In "Hex," Fox will play Leila, a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South.

Genre: Action, Thriller

Having survived death, Jonah's violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side." His only human connection is with Leila (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah's past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can't refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah's oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead. Based on the legendary graphic novel, "Jonah Hex" is an epic adventure thriller about one man's personal quest for redemption against the vast canvas of the battle between good and evil.

Whoop, was excited. Then saw the cast and crew.
The writers are the same guys who brought you the Crank movies as well as Gamer.
Not the dude's I'd trust to bring Hex to life.
The director could be good, but this is his first 'big' gig.
:bigyawn: @ Brolin
Poster looks too much Van Helsing to give confidence.

Saw this for free tonight. I went into it thinking that it wouldn't be very good, and boy, was I wrong. Not only was this not very good, it was probably the worst movie I've seen in 2010. Bad editing, bad script, bad acting, just bad, bad, bad all around. Maybe the music was ok, but it was pretty much a heavy metal sound in a Western.

Oh, and the movie was only 1 hour and 10 minutes long, I kid you not. Do NOT pay full price for this movie. It's not worth the matinee price either, but if you really must see it, see it then and do yourselves a favor.

ya, looks like the summer of suck continues at the theaters this weekend with this one... however, Toy Story 3 is supposed to be GREAT! It's about time the summer had something worth seeing.

This looks awful. I have never read the comics but there is nothing in the preview that makes this remotely appealing. And yes Toy Story 3 is fantastic. That will blow everything out of the water.

Looking forward to Toy Story 3, Inception and Get Him To The Greek, and of course, my guilty pleasure of 2010, The Expendables. I'm sure all of those are infinitely better than Jonah Hex. Please, cheese, if there is any advice you could take from me (which is rare, I know), for God's sake, do NOT go see that movie! I haven't wanted to walk out of a movie more since The Village.
