Or Matt Hasselbeck. If I were Hasselbeck I'd want out of Seattle. He has a bunch of WRs that can get as open as can be but can't catch the damn ball. I feel bad for him, especially after the one guy who has been able to catch for the 'hawks, Engram, drops that last pass in the playoffs.

They will franchise Matt Hasselbeck. This is a deep draft for a RB and I don't see them letting Matt Hasselbeck walk.

Does this mean Walter Jones will actually participate in trainging camp? It would be the first time in at least 3 years!

Peace

Seahawks | Looking to Lock Up Hasselbeck - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 16 Feb 2005 08:04:34 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports with the Seattle Seahawks reaching a new deal with OT Walter Jones this week, the club has now turned its attention toward re-signing free agent-to-be QB Matt Hasselbeck. The team has the option of designating Hasselbeck their franchise player if a new deal is not worked out before the start of free agency in March.

Naw QBs are pretty pricey when it comes to the Tag. My bet would be that they work out a deal with Hasslebeck and tag Alexander royally pissing him off and tearing apart the lockerroom leading to losing record and getting whatshisname fired.

Dang, WTH is the coaches name.

Jones was the key signing for them, they could not use the tag on him again. It would've been like 10 mil this year. I think they will keep Hasselback and Alexander too, but that's okay with me. I never thought we could get them. However, I hope the trickle down effect will be guys like Lucas and Mili hitting the market. I'd be happy with either or both.

What is more likely is that Hasselbeck will be signed in the next week and Alexander will be tagged. But he won't have an opportunity to "tear apart the lockerroom" because he'll likely be traded. The Dolphins, Bucs, and Raiders have all shown interest and have low first round picks. I think it's likely they'll try to get a trade with one of those teams. If they do, they'll probably use the lower pick on a defensive player and grab another RB with the 23rd overall. You would think that no one will be available that late but by the 23rd pick last year, not a single RB had been taken and this year there is a deeper class of RBs meaning the top guys may fall even farther.

Getting Jones signed was huge because he's the one guy that everyone thought would never sign. Hasselbeck publicly said he wanted to sign quickly to encourage others to re-sign. The situation went from bleek to bright in a day. The extra cap room from not having to tag Jones will open up more room to sign guys like Lucas and Okeafor. As far as Mili, I think he's overrated. If you really want him, I don't think too many Seahawk fans would mind putting him on a plane to Tempe after his little holdout last year. Definitely not a big time fan favorite... but then again none of our TEs are.

Anyway, good luck this year. The Cardinals definitely appear to be on the right path. If they pick up a QB and a RB this year, I think they'll be in good shape in the very near future.

I'm not all that sure they are gonna lose sleep if alexander leaves. Now Hasselback....... That's trouble. But Jones was important since they have used the tag on him the last 2-3 years.

Nice post from a Seahawk's fan. The issue on trading Alexander for a low round draft pick could be the cap hit especially with the Dolphins and Bucs. IMO Alexander will be playing for the Seahawks next season along with Jones and Hasselbeck. But who knows lots can happen between now and the draft.

Unfortunately, Jones' signing is probably the first domino in a chain. HOPEFULLY Hasselbeck won't be signed by the FA period, and things still go wrong, but it looks good for Seattle, and therefore bad for us :(
